When Chris and I go back into the school, we go our separate ways. I walk into my history classroom and scan the room for Jakob. When I see him, I smile and walk over.
He tugs me down into the seat and leans forward.
"Did he ask you out?" he whispers.
I shake my head in response.
"Ugh! He's such a wuss,"
"I actually asked him to hang out this weekend," I say casually with a shrug.
Jakob's jaw drops. I laugh at him.
"Well! What did he say?"
"He said no and that he hates me," I say sarcastically.
"Oh ha ha! You're so funny aren't you." Jakob gives me a little shove.
"He said yes. What do you think he'd do?"
"I don't know," he says, shrugging and leaning back in his chair.
"Well it isn't a date anyway,"
He just wiggles his eyebrows at me, to which I just give him a kick and turn to the teacher who is sweeping into the room.
The teacher begins to drone on about world war two but I tune out and think about this weekend. Is it going to be awkward? Is he going to tell me he likes me? Am I ready for a relationship with him?
These thoughts run through my mind all day until I'm walking out the gates of the school and heading towards the primary school.
I feel a tap on my shoulder and when I turn around I'm greeted with a big grin from Chris.
He frowns when he sees me waiting to cross the road.
"Where are you going?" He asks.
"I have to go get Michael," I explain.
"Can I come?" he pleads.
"Yeah, if you want to,"
We cross the road and enter the school. I weave through some kids and head towards Michaels classroom.
I notice that he is still in the classroom, so I sit down on one of the benches to wait. Chris drops his bag to the floor and leans on a pole next to the bench.
When Michael comes out of the classroom, he spots me and a massive grin appears on his face. He runs at me so I bend down with my arms open, when he runs straight passed me and clings onto Chris's leg.
I frown at him. When Chris sees my face he laughs and picks my brother up, giving him a hug.
"Hello, remember me? Your sister,"
"Jealous?" Chris teases with a smirk.
I just shrug as he puts my brother on the ground.
"Can I have a piggy back ride home?" Michael asks, tugging on the bottom of Chris's shirt.
Chris nods and bends down letting Michael clamber onto his back. Chris takes off towards the gate, Michael squealing with delight on his back. I sigh and pick up all three bags and swing them over my shoulders.
I jog to catch up with them at the crossing and we all cross the road. Michael tells us about his day and how he had a fight with a girl because she tried to steal his favourite crayon box.
Chris and I laugh at his little kid antics. The walk goes by pretty quickly and before I know it, we're coming to a stop at Chris's driveway.
"Here you go," I say, handing him his backpack after Michael slides off his back.
"Thanks. I'll catch you later. Text me about the weekend," he calls as he walks into his house.
"Come on," I say to Michael. He slips his hand into mine and we walk down the street towards our house.
When we get inside, we both sit down and I switch the television on for Michael and get my homework out to start.
After about an hour, I decide I should start dinner. I leave Michael in the living room and walk into the kitchen.
I open the cupboard and decide on making some pasta. I put a pan on the stove and watch the flame jump before settling beneath the pan.
Once all the ingredients are ready, I sit back down on a chair to wait for the water to boil. I grab some pasta out of the pantry along with the pasta sauce.
When the water finally boils, I add enough pasta for both Michael and I then let it sit for a while, stirring it every now and then to make sure it doesn't stick to the bottom.
After the pasta has cooked, I drain the water and add some sauce, mixing it together, then separate it into two bowls.
I hand Michael his bowl and laugh as he digs into his food. I take a bite of the steaming food and smile at my little brother.
A knock sounds on the door. I raise an eyebrow and get up to check through the window. I see Chris standing there, hunched from the cold in a black hoodie.
"Hi?" I say when I open the door.
"Hello. Um, so my Mum saw me saying good bye to you this afternoon and made me come down here to invite you to dinner on Wednesday? If you want to come,"
I smile at him. "Sure. I'll have to ask Mum because I don't know if she'll be home or not to look after Michael,"
"Alright," he says with a nod. "Just send me a text tomorrow and let me know,"
"Okay, see ya," I wave as he walked across the lawn back down the street.
Michael comes up behind me as I close the door. He hands me his bowl and runs up the stairs to his bedroom.
I rinse our bowls and run up the stairs with my back pack on my back. I jump on my bed and send a text to my Mum asking if she'll be home on Wednesday night.
Knowing she won't reply right away, I put my phone to the side and open my math homework. I get started on solving some equations and wait for time to pass.
Two hours pass and I finally finish all my homework. Michael hasn't come into my room all night, so I decide I should probably go and check on him.
When I walk into his room, he is lying on the floor, curled in a ball fast asleep with his teddy. I smile and hook my arms under his knees and around his back, before lifting him and placing him in his bed.
He stirs but doesn't wake up. Drawing the covers to his chin and watching him snuggle under, I smile and walk out, turning the light off and leaving the door slightly open.
I run down the stairs and into the kitchen. I swing open the door to the freezer and pull out a tub of ice-cream.
When I get a spoon, I bound into the living room and switch the TV on. An episode of Teen Wolf comes on and I grin, turning up the volume a little.
It's an old episode but I never get tired of re-watching them. I spoon a big chunk of ice-cream into my mouth and sigh in content. It couldn't get better than this.
The episode finally finishes, so I put the remaining ice-cream back in the freezer and jog up the stairs to my room.
I check my phone to see a text from mum. I open it and read it. She says that her boss hired a new member so she will now get every Wednesday and every second weekend off from work. That's super convenient.
I open a new text to Chris and let him know I am able to come over for dinner. My phone reveals that its almost ten o'clock.
I place the phone on charge on the other side of the room and climb under my covers. My eyelids feel heavy and close when my head hits the pillow.
