The days leading up to the dance were pretty calm. Until two days before and I realised I hadn't got a dress or shoes. According to my Mum and the girls, I couldn't go in jeans and a top because that would be inappropriate. Mum gave a hundred dollars to go buy a dress and shoes after school.

Nicole insisted on coming with because she has great taste in clothes according to her and she also left the dress shopping until the last minute. So Jess, Emma, Hannah, Nicole and I are all going to the mall after school.

I hate shopping. I hate trying on clothes more than shopping. More than anything. Nicole has suddenly started being really nice to me. She even offered to come over on the day of the dance to get ready with me. I didn't really have a choice because she actually didn't offer, she told me she was coming over.

I don't mind though. I'll have to admit, the girl has skills when it comes to hair and makeup. We're going to do our nails and have face masks on while watching movies in the morning and then do our hair and makeup in the afternoon. That's what she told me anyway.

When I get to school, Nicole walks up to me and loops her arm through mine.

"So I was thinking, a red dress would really suit you. What do you think?"

I nod. "Yeah that sounds good. I think a black dress would look awesome on you. It would compliment your hair and definitely your figure."

"Thanks! I was thinking either black or a navy blue." She replied.

"You'd rock either of them," I say with a smile.

We approach my locker and Chris is waiting there.

"Hello ladies," he greets with a smile.

"Well hello there, sir," I respond.

"Hey," Nicole pipes up from behind me, trying  to gt into Chris's line of vision.

I twist my combo into my locker. "You guys getting excited for the dance?" I ask.

I look back and Nicole nods eagerly, shuffling closer to Chris. He gives me a pained smile and nods twice. I snicker under my breath, knowing that he hates it.

He flicks me in the back of my head, earning him a kick to the shin.

"Ow, you're so violent,"

"Hey, don't hurt my date," Nicole chuckles, emphasising the word 'date'. She's starting to rub it in a little bit. She keeps referring to Chris as her 'date' and it's starting to get on my nerves.

I just give a little laugh. "How's Madison taking the news of you and Chris?" I ask Nicole, curious.

"She's mad but she said she prefers me to date him than you."

I roll my eyes. That girl is so rude. She probably prefers Nicole to date Chris because he'd dump her within two weeks.

The bell rings overhead, echoing in the halls like a shout in a canyon. The bell going off gives me a fright. It's louder than usual. Some of my books slip from my hands and hit the ground. As I bend down to pick them up, Chris does the same, causing our head to smack together.

"Ow," I laugh.

"You have a hard head," he comments, rubbing the spot our heads collided.

"So do you. That thing is like a rock,"

I look over to Nicole who is standing back awkwardly like a third wheel. I bend down and grab the books I dropped.

"Hey Chris, you should walk Nicole to class," I turn back to my locker, giving him a secret wink.
