Drew’s Point of View

Today was going to be absolutely perfect! Everything had gone by smoothly, and all that was left was lunch and a date tonight.

Aksana was going to love this, and I just knew that she would think it was perfect.

I sat in Trigonometry staring at Mr. Howling’s bald head, and all he was doing was rambling on and on about hypotenuses’. Sometimes I don’t really know what that class is even about.

Since I had sat in the back of the classroom I could have my phone out without Mr. Howling ever noticing. I scrolled through Twitter, and I was becoming enticingly bored.

But, hey, there was only about five minutes left of this class and then the best day ever would begin.

I opened my texting app, and clicked on Aksana’s name.

Meet me at the front doors at the end of the period, darling :), I texted.

Not even a minute later, I had gotten a reply back from Aksana: Sure will, but why?

            I replied: You’ll see ;)

Aksana said: I hate surprises :(

The bell-tone beeped loudly over the intercom, and I quickly texted: See you there, darling :)

Next to my desk was my backpack, I picked it up and slugged it over my shoulder. Then, as the mob of students rushed out of the door, I raced to the back of the line so I wouldn’t be crushed by the mob of yelling people.

Once I finally escaped the boring facility of Mr. Howling’s presence, I walked out into the extremely crowded hallway. Everyone was rushing to the cafeteria to find a seat, but I just casually strolled down the corridor without a care in the world. I was just so excited.

I finally had made it to the main hallway, and as I walked along the right hand ride I saw Aksana standing by the front doors looking worried. She was wringing her hands and she also had a distressed look on her face.

Slowly, I walked up behind her so she wouldn’t see me, and once I was close enough I wrapped my hands around her stomach and placed my head on her shoulder. “Hello, darling,” I said into her ear.

“Hey,” She said in a slight tone that I knew anywhere—depressed.

I kissed her cheek, and then walked to where I would be standing in front of her. My eyes gazed down at her dark blue-grey eyes and I smiled. “Come on,” I said in an optimistic voice, “let’s go to lunch.”

I parked in the parking lot of the local Starbucks, and Aksana had been silent the entire car ride there; all she did was gaze out the window. It started to worry me.

When the car stopped running she continued to look out the window, so I put my hand on her knee and said, “We’re here.”

Aksana looked over at me with a forced smile, and then she said in a dazed tone, “Sorry, I spaced out for a while.”

We both got out of my car, and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders. She trembled under my arm, but when I looked down at her she just forced a smile back up at me. From the moment I saw her today, I knew something was wrong.

As we walked inside of the appropriately decorated Starbucks, I looked down at Aksana and asked kindly, “Why don’t you find us a table?” She didn’t respond, but only with a sullen nod.

We sat outside in the beautiful weather, and Aksana still looked nervous. It really made me nervous, because maybe she was going to break up with me and I wouldn’t be around her any more—I loved her too much to let her do that.

She was the reason my (semi)heart still beats, and I can’t just have her leave. I already almost lost her once, and I don’t want to again. Aksana is perfect in every way possible and I just love her too much for her to ever leave me—I would be heartbroken for years or maybe even forever.

I finished the last of my sandwich, and Aksana was still pecking at hers. Her hands trembled as she took bites from her sandwich, and she tried her hardest to make them stop so I wouldn’t notice.

“Drew,” Aksana said in a shy voice that was mixed with tears, “I need to tell you something.”

“Anything, darling,” I said as I took her hands in an attempt to have her calm down.

She looked up and she had tears running down her face, and she pulled one of her hands from mine and cupped her eyes. “Honey, what’s wrong?” I asked caringly.

Aksana looked at me nervously, but more tears formed in her eyes. “Do you remember New Year’s Eve?” She asked grimly.

            “Yeah,” I said in response.

She started to cry even more, and then she cupped her eyes once again. Aksana tried to compose herself before she looked back up at me, but she just looked at me as she cried.

“I’m pregnant,” She sighed as she cried, “Please, please don’t leave me.”

My heart dropped. Oh god.

This was not happening.

No.

I did not. I couldn’t have.

Oh god.

Aksana was crying over and over again, “Don’t leave, don’t leave, don’t leave.”

I lifted her chin up and smiled a reassuring smile, “I promise I won’t leave. I love you too much to ever do that.”
