Stella's House
-
After I was released from the hospital, I was in the same place I found myself for a week or so. Homeless and alone.
I was grateful for Carter, he helped me a lot. A nurse had told me he came to visit me almost everyday while I was in the coma.
It meant a lot.
The house offer was finally accepted and moving in didn't take long as I only had a suitcase. The house was fully furnished and was small and cozy.
I was starting to feel whole again, I wasn't living out of a hotel room anymore.
The make-up work for the month and a half school days I had missed was piled on as soon as I returned and after countless sleepless nights, I completed it all.
Carter helped me with it a lot.
I knew I wanted Carter. He was the opposite of what Enzo and Carlisle were; he was pure, uncorrupted and kind.
It was strange to see a man so pure. Every man I had known since I was an early teenager was a killer, a gangster or a criminal. Carter was just a humble teacher who had a dog and two brothers.
I would love it when he talked about his family. I wanted to meet them but I knew it wasn't possible.
I was his student, a seventeen year old girl. They would think Carter was a creep. But I knew he wasn't, if anything, I'm sure I was the only one of us to have feelings for the other.
During class, I couldn't help but notice how handsome he truly was. When the bell rang, I walked over to him where he was grading papers.
"Um, Carter, I-"
"Stella, we're still in school. You should call me Mister Adams," he replied curtly, not looking up from his papers.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I didn't know why he was acting this way, I don't think I did anything wrong. "I wanted to thank you for all you've done for me. Maybe over dinner, at my place?" I asked nervously.
He sighed and looked up finally. "Look, Stella, I really appreciate the offer but we're getting too close. Too close for a teacher and student to be. And anyway it's my-" he hesitated for a second, seeming to contemplate whether to complete his sentence or not. "It's my girlfriend's birthday today. I can't miss it."
I gasped almost inaudibly, feeling like I had just gotten slapped in the face. "Oh. Girlfriend. Cool." I nodded, trying to play it off as if I didn't care. I then gave him one of my award-winning fake smiles that no one could tell was faux. "Wish her a happy birthday from me, okay? Have fun, Mister Adams."
With that, I walked out of the classroom. The thing with him having a girlfriend was that I did care. I cared so much. I guess I just got too many feelings for him, too quick.
I mean, what the hell was I even thinking; Dinner at my place. I rolled my eyes at my idiocy, silly me for thinking he would actually accept the offer.
I got to my locker and the bell rang, signaling my tardiness for my next class. I slid down the lockers and put my head in my hands. "God, you stupid, stupid bitch," I whispered to myself, angrily.
Stupid, silly Stella, my mind taunted.
I got up and walked towards the school entrance, fuck it. I didn't want to be here, in the same building as that man.
