Blood

I left Carter's house the next morning. I had slept over, under the warm duvet in his arms.

We woke up extra early as it was Monday morning and he had to drop me off so I could gather my belongings. We couldn't go to school together for obvious reasons.

He kissed me goodbye at the doorstep and I sighed with content as I watched him drive away.

I heading to school and sat through two classes, Carter invading all my thoughts. I couldn't help myself, I absolutely adored that man.

After he had told me about his sister, I was heartbroken. Her suicide must've been incredibly hard for him and his family.

When I finally approached his classroom, my heart was beating erratically. To say I was nervous was an understatement. I mean, for Christ's sake, I had seen him only a few hours earlier but it felt different because we were at school, where he was my teacher and I, his student.

As I finally entered the classroom, everything was normal; some students sitting, some in group chatting with their friends, and Carter sitting at his desk grading papers.

He quickly glanced up and caught my eye. We shared a brief, but warming smile. I tried to casually walk to my seat but my legs felt like jelly while I felt his eyes trained on me. I so desperately wanted to just walk up to that man and kiss him.

But, I couldn't.

Restraint, restraint, restraint! I chanted to myself in my head.

As the class settled and the bell rang, my boyfriend and teacher began his lesson.

When I got home, I went to the kitchen when I heard my name being called.

"Who the hell is that? Who's calling me?" I asked.

There was no response.

I ran to the drawer and pulled out my pistol. I held the loaded weapon in my hand as I walked around.

"God, Stella, you're so stupid," the voice said from behind me.

I spun around and was fully expecting to see someone standing there but there was no one.

"Who the fuck are you?"

"You can't find me, Stella. I'm too clever."

"Get out of my house!" I yelled.

I heard the voice laughing, this time the voice wasn't coming from a specific place anymore. Their taunting laugh was everywhere, sounding like it was coming from all around me.

"Stella, Carter doesn't love you. He never will. He's using you."

"Why the hell would he be using me?" I asked angrily as I spun around trying to find the source.

"Everyone's using you. Carlisle was using you to get to Enzo, nothing more. Enzo was using you as a play-thing, he was simply bored," they spat, venom clear in their tone.

"Carter isn't using me. That isn't true!"

"Jesus Christ!" Their manic laugh echoed through the room, ricocheting off the walls. "You're even more of an idiot than I thought. Stupid, stupid Stella."

"Get the fuck out!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

"I'm not in your house, silly."

Their voice faded as the front door opened and Carter walked in.

Something was different about him, his eyes were cold and distant.

He laughed. "Look at you, you're fucking crazy. I was just trying to get a good lay out of you, I never signed up for any of this."

"That's not true. You're lying!" I screamed, gripping the pistol harder in my hand.

"God, you're so annoying. No wonder your mother kicked you out." He laughed.

My breathing became heavier, more rapid. Tears were threatening to spill out of my eyes.

I yanked at my hair hard and felt the room begin to spin.

"Stella, I called Enzo for you. He's on his way to come and get you." Carter smiled sadistically, evil reflecting from his stormy eyes.

"No." My breathing increased even more. "No, no!" I screamed as I lifted the gun and shot three times at Carter's body. Each bullet ripped through him, burying itself into his flesh.

He fell to his knees, blood freely flowing from his mouth. He still managed to give that sadistic grin.

"You're going to die all alone, Stella."

As his body fell to the floor and went limp, tears flowed down my cheeks. I ran over to him, kneeling next to him as blood pooled around us.

"What have I done? Oh God."

I cried over him as I held his limp body in my arms, completely petrified over my actions.

His eyes were open, his blue eyes staring past me blankly.

"Carter? Wake up!" I yelled to his body.

I backed away, getting up. I kept backing away until I hit a wall. I slid down it and held the gun in my hands tightly, tears still cascading down my cheeks.

I sobbed for hours, even past when the sun set and the stars began to make an appearance.

When the clock finally showed it was two o'clock, I was still petrified. The thunder clasp outside was the only thing telling me I was still awake.

As the rain hit the windows and the side of the house, I made the decision to drag Carter's body outside to the back door. The rain was pouring down and soaked my clothes instantly, chilling me to the bone.

I grabbed a shovel and began digging. I was still sobbing in the pouring rain, digging for hours.

Carter's lifeless body laid a yard away from me as I kept on digging.

Once the sky began to lighten, his body was already in the makeshift grave and was covered in a thick layer of dirt.

My tears and the rain never stopped, not for a second. I couldn't get the words he had said out of my head. With each word, I felt my chest writhing, twisting and pulling in pain.

I began to get incredibly dizzy but I could not bring myself to move, just stare at the grave while the thunder echoed throughout my ears.

Darkness began to take over my eyesight as the garden began to spin.

Last thing I saw was the ground becoming closer as I fell onto it, blacking out.
