Chapter 68

XXX fight like a girl XXX

The next morning Lex and I discuss where we will go from here. We both agree that staying in L.A. now, isn't what either of us wants. We both what to find a nice place to settle down. A good town and a great school for Oscar. This had always been the plan but after the way things went in France, we are just going to pick up where we left off.
Lex has plans for a new tattoo shop and has even asked my opinion on the design and other improvements. I couldn't be more excited for this. Lex is an excellent business man, I suppose he learned that from his father. I could listen to him for hours and hours but life gets in the way. I return to Alice's apartment to tell Mawmaw that I will be staying with Lex for a while. One thing leads to another and I've spent most of the day chatting away with the ladies.
Lex is busy for now, so I decided to clean up my room and pack some things.
Again I lose track of time and it is dark outside before I have finished. Lex will be here shortly but I still have time for a shower before he gets here.
I choose to go comfy, in sweats and one of Lex's black T-shirts. My hair is still up in a towel when I enter my room.
Odd.
I don't remember opening the window.
I push it closed and lock it tight. I flip my head over and remove my towel.  I hear a noise coming from my closet. I think that I'm simply hearing things, so I brush it off. On my nightstand, I find my favorite lotion and rub some on my arms and cheeks. Another rattle comes from my behind the doors of my closest. And I know now.... Someone is in there.
Before I am able to put my feet back on the floor, the doors fly open. And there is a loud bang.
The bullet slices through my arm like I am nothing more than butter. A scream comes. My own and then others.
Another shot. This bullet doesn't touch me. Mawmaw and Alice are in the room now. I scream out for them to run. Alice does but Mawmaw hits the girl with the first thing she gets her hands on.... A lamp. The gun falls from the girls hands.
It's only now that I recognize who it is. Kelly.
And the girl hits my Mawmaw. Literally draws back and punches her in the side of her head. I'm not sure where it comes from but I launch myself from the bed and fly across the room. We land inside of the closet. I raise my fists and start beating her with all my might.
I underestimate her strength. She kicks me off of her. I fall back hard. Kelly is on top of me, like a mad man. Rage.
Crazy rage in her eyes.
Her hands hit me. Over and over.
God knows, I'm not a fighter but damn it, I am a survivor!
I grab a handful of her stringy hair and sling her off of me. We both get to our feet at the same time. Her eyes search for the gun. I run for it before she can. She screams as I hold it up. Before I can pull the trigger she tackles me right through the window. I feel the glass cut through my skin. When I hit the ground, every bit of air in body fly's out.
I gasp for air.
I have tunnel vision.
Everything hurts.
The gun is gone from my hands. I have no idea where it is. I just hope she doesn't find it. I roll over on my side.
Kelly lays just feet away from me. Her eyes closed. Is she dead?
Should I see?
I try to pull myself up. The pain in my arm is unbearable but all I do is groan. 
Her eyes open.
I freeze.
I don't know how but she moves toward me. I scramble away as best as I can.

"Why are you doing this?" I scream.

With her hands she drags herself toward me.

"You took him from me!" she screams.

What?! "I don't understand."

She continues to me and I continue backing away. Her legs are broken. That's easy to see. I'm lucky I don't have the same or worse.

"It was your plan all long, wasn't it?" she yells. "He just gave you the job, didn't think twice about it! He was always right there, to save your ass!"

"Oh God," I say with the realization of what she is admitting to. "You killed him."

She stops. "I didn't mean to kill him! I loved Nick! I loved him from the moment I saw him. I was there with him from the very beginning. I did everything for him! And then you! You came in and fucked up everything!"

"If you loved him so much why did you kill him?"

"I didn't mean to kill him! I thought it was you walking through the door!"

She is getting too close. I try to stand. She trips me and I fall again. I kick at her. Frantically. I scream.

Blue lights flash. Just as the cops show up so does Lex. He is livid. He has no care for where or not anyone notices him or who he is, his only care is getting to me.

"Mia!"

An ambulance shows up. They push Lex out of the way with much difficulty. The police try to pull Kelly away. She goes, screaming and hitting.
Mawmaw and Alice try to calm down Lex. He is furious.
They take me away in the ambulance. Lex and Mawmaw insists on coming along. While Alice stays to explain everything.
Lex holds my hand.

"Why does it seem like everyone tries to take you away from me, in one way or another?" he says with tears in his eyes.

I reach out to touch his cheek.

"They can try, but they never will. I'll always be with you," I find myself comforting him. 

He kisses the top of my head.
Everything happens so fast that I can hardly keep up. We arrive and they push me inside. Lex and Mawmaw aren't allowed inside with me. My hand reaches out for him, even when he isn't there.
A needle is pushed into my hand. Then sleep comes.
