Brandon:
My eyes scan the faces passing me in the halls. Callie wasn't around and I promised her Id watch over Jude. I run into someone and quickly look down to apologize.
"I'm so sor.. oh Jude I was looking everywhere for you" I laugh, he looked so much like Callie it almost hurt so much that it started to get unbearable.
"I'm sorry Brandon. You know how my dad can be." I nod and see a hand shaped bruise forming on Jude's wrist.
After Callie's mom died she stopped talking to me, I felt that maybe I reminded her of her mom but she refused to even look and me until she switched Foster homes. Once they were at the Foster home that Jude is currently at, Callie talked to me about how her Foster father was abusing Jude and her. Callie never brought up her first Foster home and she refused to talk about it.
"Here," I started while handing the brown bag to Jude "Lena made you lunch"
Jude smiled, "I'll make sure to stop by and say thanks!" I could read right though Jude.
"That fake smile isn't fooling me. If you don't want your lunch I'll happily give it to Jesus," I looked at Jude who now had his full attention on me. We both knew Jesus would eat that lunch down in a heartbeat.
"No, no that won't be necessary. I just.." He hesitated but I knew where he was going with this. "Miss her" He finished.
"Me too, bud" I frown wrapping my arm around his shoulder "Let's get you to class" I walk him down the hallway and to his classroom.
"Thanks again Brandon!" He faked another smile and this time I do that same.
I was beyond worried for Callie. I have always been, ever since her mom died. Even when she didn't talk to me for almost a year. She was in my head everyday and nothing has changed that.
"Brandon!" I hear as I am almost in my classroom. It was her, my distraction.
"Hey" I say turning around on my heels. She stands on her tiptoes to kiss me and I pull away smiling.
"Gotta get to class" she yells running down the hall. Talya was one of the only distractions I has from Callie and I got to say it was a distraction that I enjoyed.
After school I had my semifinal piano scholarship. I walked into my house ready for all the questions on it. "Brandon" Lena starts "How'd it go?"
"Well I made it to the finals" I pushed it off noticing the more I play the more I think of Callie and how I have to continue for her.
The twins and Lena start to overwhelm me with questions and congratulations. I sit back waiting for dinner and talking to Jesus. Something was weird about him, almost as if there was something he wasn't telling me.
I hear and door close and everyone gets super quiet. I look up to my mom, Stef. Her eyes planted to the door and her mouth hung open with disbelief. I slowly stand up expecting it to be a mouse or some other creature my mother hated and was afraid of. My mom takes off running down to hall to where the noise came from and I hear her babbling about 'how she missed her so much'. I sit back down figuring my grandmother came for dinner. I serve myself and take a bit. I look up, chewing, to see the twins and Lena staring at me. I shallow my food before letting out a slight "what?".
Right then and there I see my mom come back from the room with someone following close behind her. My breathing hitches at the sight of her. "Callie," I say standing up and staring at her from where we stood. "Callie?" This time a question with tears welling in my eyes.
I see the same reaction from her. She lets a simple and unsure nod. I quickly run to her wrapping my arms around her small body and pulling her in tight like I would never let go, like at any moment she could just slip away or disappear leaving me with only the dreams.
