Remembering Family

Chapter 3

"Yes?" Oralie asked.

"Is there any shade out there that would be willing to teach Tam?" I asked carefully. The councillors were silent, probably all thinking. It was Emery who spoke first. 

"We know of one, but he may or may not help." He said. I glanced at Tam excitedly, and he grinned. Just then, a new elf appeared.

"Alright. Since you are here, you are willing to train Tam?" Emery said to the new elf. He must be the shade. 

"Yes." The elf said simply. I couldn't help but have a bad feeling about him. He seemed quite suspicious. "Let's see what you can do." He prompted. I removed my hand from Tam's, not wanting to enhance his ability. 

"I should probably leave the room for this." I said awkwardly.

"Why?" Everybody asked. 

"Enhancer." They all nodded, and I left the room quietly, giving Tam a thumbs up on my way out. Then, I connected my mind with Fitz's. 

Tell me how it's going please. I transmitted.

He's impressing the Shade. Biana offered to get read again so Tam could show that ability off. Fitz replied. 

That's good 

OH!

Uh?

Nothing, just did something unexpected.

What?

He uh......

What? No secrets between cognates.

He....well he kissed Biana. He finally answered. But he's a flustered and apologetic and saying he didn't mean to do that and Biana's just laughing at him.

Well, he likes Biana?

No, he denied that when Dex asked him. Tam's not one to lie. 

Well...... Tam walking out of the room interrupted me, and he came straight towards me. Fitz was visible through the doorway,and he was watching with curiousity. 

Would you mind if I kissed you?  Tam asked in my mind. I didn't have time to reply before his lips were on mine. My eyes closed as I kissed back, surprising myself. What about Fitz? My mind said. What about Keefe? The thoughts about the other boys that had captured my heart disappeared when I felt Tam's hand on my cheek. Someone cleared their throat, and it was Alden. Keefe was scowling, and Fitz was grinning madly at me. Tam was looking at me for my reaction to our kiss. I smiled at him, and he reached out to me through shadow whispering. 

Did....Did I go too far? He asked hesitantly. 

No.  I replied. 

I....uh.....really like you? 

And I....uh....really like you? I teased and he blushed. 

"Whoa, Soph made Tam blush!" Linh exclaimed and Tam laughed. My eyes flickered to Natalie, who was looking a little less bewildered. 

"As much as I love Tam and Sophie together." A new, familiar voice said. Grady. Keefe scowled at his words. 

Hey congrats. Fitz said to me telepathically. 

You know that secret that you've been pestering me about? I said suddenly.

Yeah? 

I used to like you. Like a lot. 

And now you like Tam 

Yeah. Does this make anything weird? Does this like mess up being cognates?
