March 1, 1997. Today is the day when something cruel happened. The day when earth received it's worst nightmare.

The day when the monsters from under the beds got scared.

The day everyone hates. And wishes it didn't happen.

Today is my birthday.

"Happy Birthday Sweety!" My mom said as she entered my room, waking me up.

"Ugh mom! It's 7:00!" I said half asleep.

"Yes, and you still have school! But afterwards, I'm taking you out. We're going to Hot Topic to buy you clothes, then Olive Garden for your birthday dinner. Your grandparents and cousins are going to be joining us at dinner" My mom said.

I zoned out after Hot Topic.

"YAY! THANKS MOM!" I said hugging her.

She left so I could change but Isobel appeared.

"So. Today is your birthday, huh?" she asked.

I nodded while trying to find clothes to wear.

"What do you want? For your birthday" she asked.

"Oh, my freedom. From you" I said.

"Yeah. Your a birthday candle to short from getting that wish" she said.

"Something else?"

"I don't know. You know me better than anyone. Even myself. You should know what I want.." I said.

After all the gifts and singing and cake I finally went to fourth hour peacefully. It was study hall so we couldn't really talk anyway.

I had a birthday tiara and a balloon tied to my backpack. I think everyone in the school wished me a happy birthday. Well, everyone except-

"It's your birthday?" I heard someone ask in a whisper tone.

I turned around and saw Hunter.

"Yes" I replied hoping I wouldn't get caught talking.

"Oh. Okay" he said and returned to his book.

Uh..

"Aren't you going to wish me a happy birthday?" I asked.

"No"

"Why not?"

"Because. Everyone in the school already has. It won't matter if it's one person short" He said.

He looked back down at his book and i decided to turn back around when he didn't look up.

I was looking around the room and I saw Isobel behind the teacher.

It was rather scary than welcoming.

She told me to go to the bathroom.

She said it out loud because, well, I'm the only one who can actually hear her.

So I did what she asked.

"Isobel? Hello.." I asked looking around the empty bathroom.

"Boo" she said.

I screeched.

"ISOBEL! HOW MANY TIMES DID I TELL YOU NOT TO DO THAT" I yelled.

"Hey hey. Are you just gonna stand there and yell at me? Or do you want me to give you your present?" she said smirking.

I probably jumped up and down like a little child but a gift from a ghost? How awesome is that.

"Okay. Here's how it's going to work. Today, and only today, I'm going to give you three wishes. Like a genie in a lamp. You can make any wish, no restrictions. But, you have until midnight to make them. Sounds cool, huh?" she asked.

"Yes!" I yelled.

"Sh. People from outside will think you're crazy"

"Since when did I care about what people think of me?"

"When you realized their words actually hurt.." She said.

I stayed quiet. It's true.

No matter how hard you pretend not to care, it still hurts.
