Wow that was a lot of info to take in and the way my head was feeling at the moment I couldn't process it properly.
"Come on Rocky come get your drink?" Gary shouted. "Where did you learn to punch like that anyway"
"The streets" I told him with a wink as we walked towards the bar.
He laughed and handed me my shot. "Here's to you brawler!" he announced.
I threw back the shot in the hope it would wake me up a bit more and stop me being such a misery guts but also in the hope that it would give me the courage I had earlier when I grabbed Shane and kissed him. I was definitely going to go for it! I'd be mad not too. I was not going to become some old spinster sat in my rocking chair in front of a fire regretting missing out on Shane.
Just then he walked into the room.
"Mum said he's alright, they put his shoulder back in place, he has a fracture, few bruised ribs but other than that he's ok. She's just hoping it knocked some sense into him. I told her not to hold her breath," he said.
They all laughed and shook their heads.
Sandy decided to explain "Oh you'll get used to this Stacey. Elliott is like gods own little crash test dummy. If there is something that he can hurt himself with he does. He's on first name terms with the ambulance crew, who now just see our number and say 'what has he done now' and then come and get him. His dad is one of the surgeons at the hospital and is next of kin so we don't have to go with him anymore. We just stick him in the back and watch him suck up the gas and air, he loves that stuff. Oh and he's a crier, no matter if it's a paper cut or broken leg he still cries until one of us say it was our fault he got hurt. So we take the blame which means my mum can't ground him. You wouldn't believe he was 15 would you?"
That explained earlier. Shane was taking the blame, I hadn't distracted him. He had been sat at the bar with Gary. He wasn't to know that his little brother was going to try to lift the TV. He was trying to calm him down by taking the blame. Wow he just got hotter.... I didn't think that was possible but it was.
Gary filled up the shot glasses and this time Shane took one too. I smiled at him and raised my glass. He smiled raised his too. I flung it back. Yeah this stuff was working already.
"I think I fancy a long drink, have we got any ice Gary," Sandy asked.
"No, I'll get some for you from the kitchen," Gary replied.
"I'll help you," she said and they disappeared to get some ice.
I didn't know if this was their unsubtle way of giving us some alone time or if they'd gone to make out in the kitchen. I didn't care. I was alone with the object of my affection and I was going to go for it... well after another shot or three.
"You sure you're ok?" he asked
"Yeah" I smiled at him. "What time is it?"
He checked his watch. "Just coming up to midnight. Why are you going to turn into a pumpkin?"
"No I'm going to kiss you."
He gave a gentle laugh and smiled but I could tell by the way his eyes look towards the floor that he was not really laughing.
"It's ok you don't need to, Gary's just a wind up merchant," he said.
"What's Gary got to do with this?" I teased.
"You know saying I was owed 54 minutes and all that other jazz," again he hung his head to the floor and I noticed that he was doing exactly what Sandy did with Gary. He was avoiding eye contact.
