"Rise and shine, petite dame!" Lafayette called from outside of the tent. You groggily leaned forward and began to get dressed. When you finished, you put on your blue coat and exited the tent. It didn't take you long to meet up with Lafayette and the others. you all chatted for a bit, then lieutenant colonel Burr approached the three of you. "Good morning men, and madame. The general commanded that I tell you all that this day will be dedicated to training and taking inventory."
"Yes, sir." All four of you said. Hercules waved goodbye as he proceeded to the stealth training grounds. Lafayette had to meet up with a few others to discuss battle plans, which just left you and Laurens. "So, you don't have and important thing to do like the others?" You asked. He shook his head. "Nope. I'm just a high ranking soldier and that's it. The other two have bigger roles."
Bewildered by what he said, you asked, "What do you mean? Just because you don't have to do some elaborate things like they do, doesn't mean that their roles are more important." He chuckled and stepped toward you. "You're right. Say, why don't we do some combat training before Burr or Alex throw a hissy fit." You nodded in agreement and grabbed his hand as he directed you two to the training grounds.
John stopped in front of a training dummy and handed you a musket. "Show me your skills, cutie." He teased. Your face grew red as you raised the musket to aim it at the dummy. You squinted your eyes as you prepared to fire and John snickered. "Hold on sweetheart." He stated as he stood behind you and grabbed your hands that were tightly gripping the weapon.
"You don't want to take too long when aiming. Most of the time, your opponent will be moving, so you have to react quickly." He clutched the musket and held it close to him, almost immediately firing. You looked over at the dummy and the bullet was lodged right where the heart would be. You were in awe as he handed you the musket. You held it close, darted your eyes towards the dummy, and fired.
The bullet landed in the dummy's chest and Laurens seemed very proud. "Good job, (Y/n). You sure you could do the same with a moving target?" He pondered. "I hope so. While training, they only taught us how to shoot while precisely aiming. Why are you a better teacher than them?" You questioned. He laughed and said, "I'm more experienced than many of the people here, other than Lafayette of course."
You smiled at his input and placed the weapon next to the dummy. The two of you got out of the way from others to train and talked for a little bit. You learned that John has a weird obsession for turtles and he learned that you liked to draw and debate things. "You should talk to Alexander much more then. Although, if you do, remember that he turns into a child when debating."
You giggled as you looked down towards the slightly dead grass from the incoming winter. "It's becoming much colder outside. Wonder how the newbies will hold up to it." You started up a conversation. "Most of the new recruits are usually men just rummaging for honor. Now, Hamilton, that's a man that just fights to fight." Your head flung up and swung to John's face. "So he enjoys seeing an opposing team die?" You asked.
"Eh, kinda. He's also kind of a showoff. He's actually kind of mad in a sense." "By mad, do you mean crazy?" You questioned. "Well, he's seen both his mother and his cousin die. So I wouldn't be surprised if he did go insane." Your expression faded and you asked, "Does war usually make a person go crazy?" He pondered the question for a moment.
"Depends on the circumstances. Many spies go insane, that is, if they come out of England alive." You felt your chest cave in as you remembered that Hercules was a spy. "Does that mean, Herc-" "He's a pretty strong dude. I'd be surprised if anything the king threw at him affected him."
Your gaze shifted as Mr. Hamilton came into Laurens and your range. "Laurens, (Y/n), I need you two real quick." You two followed him as he pulled you both into a tent that had a table in it with a map atop of it. Lafayette was standing behind it and Hercules was on the side of the tent. "You two come here, s'il vous plaît." You and Laurens neared the table and Lafayette slammed his hand on a spot on the map. "This location right here is where we believe some British troops are camping. I need Hercules and Laurens to investigate and see if they have any battle plans."
Laurens nodded then proceeded to ask, "Why did you call (Y/n) in here?" Lafayette's eyes darted towards yours. They were dark and emotionless. He must've been really stressed. "I believe that she will be useful as a lookout for you two." You stopped him. "But Lafayette, if I wear my uniform to the camp I'll be killed on sight! And don't you think it will be kind of suspicious for a lady to be standing in the woods near the camp?"
Lafayette raised his brow in annoyance and responded to your remark. "Manquer (L/n), do you really think we would send any spies in with their uniforms on?" You felt your heart sink into the pits of your stomach. "And which do you find more suspicious, a man snooping around a redcoats camp or a lady? You can act like you are lost and were trying to find your way back to town. Any objections?" You sighed. "No, sir."
"Bien." He swerved around the table and whispered in your ear. "By the way, you don't have to call me sir, la mignonne. Although, it is flattering." He patted your shoulder and walked out of the tent and handed the plans to Hamilton. You were left with a faint blush on your face and still embarrassed. Hercules walked over to you and Laurens. "We should be heading out tomorrow morning. So, miss (L/n), I would like to train on your acting skills. You too, Laurens. Follow me."
You and Laurens walked out of the tent, following Hercules to a tent. "(Y/n), I am a redcoat soldier asking why you are not in town and near somewhere you shouldn't be. What do you do and say?" You breathed in and gave your rich girl impression. "Oh sir, I didn't mean to. I'll leave now, but do you think you could direct me towards town?" Herc nodded. "Good, what do you do after you lead him away from camp?" "Break his neck to ensure that I do not get any blood on me, but still have my pocket knife strapped to my leg."
"Yes! Laurens, I will do most of the talking since I am more experienced in this than you. Don't not talk at all, though, that will look suspicious. Make sure you agree if they ever talk about how America will surely lose against the king and how colonists should be executed for treason." Laurens nodded and Herc pulled us towards another tent which was presumably Laurens and his. "Alexander wanted to hang out a bit before nightfall. So, to make sure we don't drink too much, we will not be going to the bar at all tonight."
Laurens seemed defeated by that statement and you patted him on the back. Hamilton, Burr, and Lafayette were walking towards the three of you, all looking tired with the exception of Burr. You waved at them with an adorable smile. Burr waved back while Hamilton and Laf winked at you. Laurens's gaze was stuck to you and you quickly noticed. "You alright dude?" He chuckled and nodded his head. You all talked until the sun finished setting. "Good night men. I wish you three luck tomorrow." Burr said, walking to his tent.
Lafayette and Hamilton went to their tents as well and Hercules entered the tent. Before you left, John pulled you towards him and he thought out loud, staring intently into your eyes. "What are you doing to me? Why do you make me feel so weird inside? You make my face heat up whenever I see you. Why are you different from everyone else." Your eyes shifted to the side and he snapped out of his trance.
"Ugh, I'm sorry I keep acting like this, (Y/n). It just confuses me how no one else but you can make me feel so, Helpless..." You blushed and told him, "Well, when I'm around you, I feel like that as well." His face lit up and he had the cutest smile on his face. He slammed his lips onto yours only to quickly realize what he was doing and immediately pulled back. "I..Uh.. I-I'm so sorry. I-I..." You giggled in response and kissed his cheek.
"You're a cute soldier, y'know that?" You walked off and he held his hand to his face. He giggled and swooned into the tent with his face bright red. Hercules was confused since he was trying to sleep and asked him what was up with him.
"I'm in love, Hercules!!!"
