Sobs were heard from outside the tent. "Laurens, do you hear that?" You asked. He just hummed and you pushed him off of you. "I'll be right back. I have to see this." You said.

"Please, stay." John begged. You looked at him, then back to the tent's exit. "I'll be quick, I promise-"

"Stay with me." John said. He was no longer asking. He was commanding. You sighed but didn't look back at him. You just closed your eyes. Giving him time to understand your curiosity. "Come here." He said, now sitting up.

You groaned and sat next to John. His arms wrapped around your waist and he started saying some questionable things.

"It will be so fun whenever we win this war. It'll just be you and me." You nodded. "Yeah. Hopefully, we both get out of this war alive." John's grip on you grew tighter.

"We will. I swear on my life we will get out of this war together. We don't need anyone else." Your eyes shot open.

"We still have to protect Alexander, Lafayette, and Hercules!" You informed. "They're strong. They can handle themselves. I'll protect you." You grew annoyed.

"So, I can't take care of myself is what you're saying?" He looked at you, emotionless. "I did not say that."

"I know you didn't, and I know what you mean. You just want me to be safe." You shifted your position so you were looking at him. "But I can also handle myself. You just have to trust me."

John stared at you. his eyes examined you up and down. "I know you can. You are a strong girl, which is one of the reasons I love you." You blushed but felt no giddiness at the moment. "However, you are still a part of this army. King George will stop at nothing to have all of our heads."

"We are a strong army as well! I know we can defeat them!" You exclaimed. John's expression grew darker. "(Y/n), please."

"We just have to step up our game on our battle plans!" John growled. "(Y/n)-"

"I'll take a group of men and we can ride to cities that take our American money. John, we can win this-"

"(Y/N)!" He yelled. You flinched. "You must stay here with me. I can protect you and make sure you're safe. If you're gone with other men, then I'll be alone and you could be banging some asshole." He spat.

You felt your blood begin to boil. "How fucking dare you." John's eyes widened. "How dare you think that I would leave you just to fuck other men. I am not that kind of girl and you out of anyone should know that." You pushed him away.

You got up and ran to the sobbing you heard earlier. John frowned but quickly smirked at the thought, "She'll come back. She needs me. I'm the only one for her."

You took a turn towards the middle of camp and found two dead bodies with a man hovering over them. "Why. Why not take me? IF YOU'RE GONNA KILL MY ONLY FRIENDS THEN GODDAMNIT KILL ME TOO!" You narrowed your eyes to get a good look at the man.

"Richard Ivey? Is that you, sir?" You asked with a sympathetic tone. His breath hitched. "Are you alright? Who are these two?" Your eyes trailed the men, only to realize one was your old best friend James Clements.

"No..." You choked out. "What the fuck kind of horror play shit is this.." You sat next to Ivey and teared up a bit. You were tired of this. No one knew who the hell was causing these murders and you were not going to have to wake up tomorrow with another dead man amongst you.

With eyes wide open and tear stained cheeks, you walked to General Washington's tent and was about to open it. "Miss (L/n)." Lafayette called from behind you. "I've already told the general about the murders. He wants me to take half of the soldiers to another camp for awhile until the culprit is identified."

"Take me with you." You said with fear laced in your voice. "Are you sure, mon amie? Your love, Laurens, will not be attending with us."

You paused. Sure, John was acting weird, but did you really want to take some time apart from him because of it? It seemed if you stayed and talked it out, he would have come to his senses and gave you more freedom. Not that he could pry you away from it anyways.

"Yes. I need some time alone right now. I hope he will understand." Laf smirked. "I'm sure he will. John is like a saint." You giggled. "Yeah, you're right."

                                                    _____________________

It was now two days later. John did not kill anyone, hoping that the general would suspend the splitting of the camp. To his disappointment, Lafayette was leaving with his fellow troops. Including you. John was outraged. He was completely oblivious to when you told him you wanted space. He had a sneaking suspicion Laf had something to do with you wanting to leave.

Though the general wanted John to stay put, he had other plans. Laurens left most of his stuff in his tent, along with a note for Hercules. It wrote,

My colleague, Hercules

It has come to my attention that Lafayette, Alexander, and my beloved (Y/n) are going away for awhile. As you know, I cannot let this happen. While I can't keep my dear here with me, I can follow her and make sure she is safe. Especially around Monsieur  Lafayette. Not that I think he would hurt such a delicate girl as my love, but that he will try to take her from me. You know what I mean. You've experienced this too. Tell anyone about my departure, and I'll spill the beans about your affair.

Sincerely, Laurens.

Who the hell did he think he was just barging out to basically stalk you. Hercules could care less about his affair getting out. He just didn't want John to do anything he would soon regret when he truly realized what he was doing. Herc grabbed his coat and followed a ways behind the troops. John was near. He might be hiding, but he hates being alone.
