The saddle of the horse started to give your skin bruises the longer you and your comrades ventured out for Laurens. The trip had so far lasted three days, and throughout those three days you've felt miserable. You kept trying to come up with excuses as to why John could be innocent. None of which would work.
A sigh escaped your mouth as you road next to Lafayette. "Everything alright?" He asked. You shook you head. You felt tired more than usual. Your limbs felt weak and your stomach ached. "I'm assuming it has to do with John?" You shook you head again. "I just feel awful. My stomach hurts and I feel like I'm gonna faint."
Lafayette's expression fell and he sat in thought. His eyes lit up and he repositioned his horses saddle. He haulted his and your horse and pulled you off. "What are you doing?" You questioned. He didn't answer. He brought you you on his horse and sat in front of you. "Take a nap, mon petit. I'll watch out for John. You need to sleep."
You nodded your head and layed it on Lafayette's back. You wrapped your arms around his waist gently and drifted off to sleep. Lafayette smiled returned and he grabbed a hold of both of the horses' regins and traveled around the area.
It was mildy quiet, considering that Laf directed everyone to get in small groups and search. The only other person with the two of you was Hercules. Hamilton informed that he would join in the search if John was not found that day. All this sent sadness throughout your body. All you could think about was that it's all your fault.
"Poor, (Y/n)... She must be so scared." Hercules muttered. "Yes. We must find John as quickly as possible. Um, Herc?" Laf said. "Yes?"
"Do you, still have a thing for her?" He asked. Hercules blushed and fumbled his hands. "How did you find out?" Laf chuckled. "It's kind of obvious, ami."
"To answer your question, n-no. I don't. She's gone through too much. I wouldn't want to bother her with even more problems.""Heh..." Lafayette uttered. "I wish it was that easy." Herc cocked his head to this side.
"I-I've fallen for her. I can't tell her for the same reason as you." Herc's eyebrows furrowed, but slowly stopped. "I understand. If she later grows fond of you, I won't get in your way." Lafayette smiled wider and nodded. "Thanks, meilleur ami."A scream was heard throughout the forest. Laf directed Herc to follow him. The noise got closer and closer, until they were right upon it. What they saw was horrific.
"J-John?" Hercules muttered.Laurens was tied up and one soldier was holding him while the other was holding his now bloody arm. Herc jumped off his horse and attented to the soldier's wound. Lafayette got off his horse, but made sure you were still asleep.
"My dear, Laurens. Why did you do all of this? I thought you loved America. I thought you wanted to help free slaves." John closed his eyes. "I did, but now all I see is a bunch of cowards that hide behind Washington. You hope for a happy ending, but obeying the king is your best bet. Now, fuck off." He said, spitting at Lafayette. Laf stood quietly as he whiped the spit off his cheak.
"So, you're going to act like that? Figures... I know your lying." Laf stated. John grinned and signalled for Laf to tell him more. "The John I know would never do that to his contry. What the hell happened to you?" John chuckled, then laughed. He laughed so much that he couldn't breathe. He abruptly stopped.
"You obviously don't know me well enough then. I do as I please. It has always been this way." Laf gritted his teeth. "Why... WHY!? TELL ME WHY YOU BASTARD!" Lafayette yelled. He repeatedly punched John in the face. The sodier holding John back tried to persuade Laf to stop, but there was no use.
"YOU MADE (Y/N) FEEL FUCKING MISERABLE. YOU BETTER ANSWER ME BEFORE I BLOW YOUR GODDAMN BRAINS OUT!" Lafayette screamed, now shakily holding his musket to John's forehead. "Go ahead. Shoot me." John teased. "Y-You... YOU SON OF A B-"
"That's enough!" Hercules hollered, throwing Laf's musket to the ground."We agreed that (Y/n) would execute him. Don't let your anger take over." He reasoned with Herc. Laf nodded and glared at John. "It's over for you, Laurens. Give up now, or be the sore loser that you are." John frowned. "That's funny."
Laf became confused and stared at John. "Fine, you got me. But, there's just one thing." Laf came closer to him. "What is it?"
John lifted his head. "I never give up." He then kneed Lafayette in the stomach and broke free from the ropes restraining him. He picked up Lafayette's musket and shot the soldier that held him down. He then shot the other soldier to death. Hercules was also shot, but only his leg was injured.John attempted to shoot Herc again, but there were no more bullets. He threw the gun down and knocked out Hercules. He picked up both Lafayette and Hercules and put them on the horse next to Lafayette's horse. John positioned you in front of him and grabbed onto the reigns of both the horses. In mere minutes, the scene of the crime was fled and the only one left was the soldier who held John back. Barely alive, he saw John ride off with all three of you. He reached his hand out, but it quickly fell down. With that, he gave his final breath, and left this world.
