Bea's POV

I didn't know what I thinking when I had offered Jamie to come back to my house and none the less giving her a ride back to her place. I barely even knew this girl, for all I know she could be a thief or a psychopath. But, something about her seemed trustworthy.

She was thin and tall, practically towering over me. Her jean shorts showed her long legs and her black tank top hung loosely around her shoulders. Her skin was abnormally pale for it to be that light of a color in the middle of June and her long, caramel brown hair was tied up in a loose ponytail. Her eyes were blue. Bright blue with specks of gold coloring near the pupils. I was slightly jealous of them. Heck, I was slightly jealous of her. My eyes were just a boring brown and her's were a bright, glowing blue. They were almost hypnotizing.

Everything about Jamie seemed perfect.

The whole way we walked to my house it was silent pretty much the entire time. I tried striking up a conversation by asking Jamie a few questions about herself, but she always answered "yes", "no", or with just simply one word. I'd never met someone as closed off as her. She didn't seem shy just--reserved. She was one of those people that you have to keep chipping at until you find something that they can relate with or somehow conjure up their interest in you.

After about ten minutes of awkward silence, we finally crossed the last street that led to my house. I walked up to the doorstep and unlocked the door. The lights were still on, assuming my mom was still awake, which meant I had to explain why I was so late and who the hell this girl was. Thankfully, my mom was a pretty chill person so hopefully, she wouldn't be too upset with me. There would, however, be a lot of questions.

As soon as I closed the door behind me I saw my mom peer around the corner. Her pixie cut brown hair was sticking up in places and she was clearly tired. I felt slightly guiltily leaving her here not knowing where I was and having no way to contact me. I turned to Jamie who was looking around our two-story house in awe. It was nothing special but she seemed to think the opposite.

"Jamie," I whispered causing her to jump a little and look back at me. "I'm gonna talk to my mom for a second can you just...stay here?" She nodded her head and continued to admire whatever it was she thought was so great about my house. I turned back to face my mother, now standing fully in sight, her arms crossed over her chest. I made my way over to where she stood and waited impatiently for an answer to all this confusion.

"I'm so sorry I'm late and forgot my phone, but I have a perfectly good explanation to why that is--"

"Who's that?" she asked, slightly tilting her head towards where Jamie stood. I looked back and saw her in yet the same state she had been the minute we walked in. I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help letting a small chuckle escape my lips at her childlike sense of wonder. She seemed so little and innocent.

"A girl I met," I tell her quietly. I hadn't meant to just say that, I had a whole explanation planned out beforehand, but that was the only thing I could manage to get out in that moment. I looked back at my mom to find her looking at me very crossly. I cleared my throat and processed to explain what was fully going on.

"I saw her on the street on my way home from Starbucks and she looked lost, so naturally I was gonna say hi to her to see if I could help her. Then this giant fat guy came out of nowhere and started touching me and when I finally told him to stop and got away he started chasing me! So, I couldn't just leave her with this man, so I quickly grabbed her by the wrist and we hid until he was gone." My mother's cross look turned into a look of great concern. "But I'm fine! I didn't get hurt or anything." She sighed and glanced over at Jamie who was now crouched down lightly petting our dog, Ollie, who was lightly sleeping on his bed.
