~~~ Storm's POV ~~~
I pulled my tail across my lap and brushed my long fur. I felt a tinge of guilt for the fox, Shadow. Its hard to comprehend that the Wolf isn't the top of the food chain in the city.
Shadow pulled himself together and braced his elbows on his knees. "Storm, there is alot that most people arnt allowed to know, about me that is." My heart started thundering and I was pretty sure he could hear it. Especially since he said, "Not like I killed anyone or anything", He chuckled a bit and went back to his seriousness. "C-Can I trust you with the information I'm about to tell you?"
I stopped caressing my tail, "You took in a disgusting, dirty, wolf. Keeping a secret is the least I could do." He palmed at his eyes one last time.
~~~ Shadow's POV ~~~
It's been so long since I've said these words myself...
"I was shipped off to Afghanistan when I was 19. My wife, Mable, was left behind. I moved up into the ranks quickly. I became the General and finally got off duty and went back home to my wife. It had been 5 years and I only had short days I got to see her.
I had just gotten back from a mission and spent every second with her, sleeping and awake, not knowing if it would be the last time I see her. Little did I know , she was pregnant by the time I left." I thumbed at that little tattoo on my wrist. "His name was Aaron, he was a little devil... Mable, had never told me about Aaron, she always lied to me and I never figured it out until she was -" My throat tightened and I lost my grip on reality for a second.
"Hey," Storm said, jolting me awake from whatever dreamscape I was devoured in. "We can keep talking tomorrow, I don't want to put too much stress on you." She walked over to me and sat beside me, she caressed my head and calmed me down a bit.
I took a deep breath, "She passed... I was called by someone asking for me, his father. The poor sobbing voice on the other end of the phone gave me the bad news and I went crazy. I came back over seas and hunted down the bastard who killed her." My heart was pounding through my head, tears slid down my face and I ground my teeth.
" Shadow," Storm said calmly, too calmly, how could she not be as enraged as I am right now?!
"WHAT?!" I snapped back. My face was inches from hers and she stood her ground. A solid wall of calmness against my fiery sea of rage. She lifted her hand to cup my cheek and brushed a tear away. I turned my head into her hand, her sharp nails gently grazing my fur.
"I think you should go to sleep, Shadow. You're exaughted. You need the rest." She was right. I picked myself up off the couch and wobbled a bit.
I made my way halfway up the steps before I turned to her and said: " Storm, thank you. You may sleep in the guest room, you'll find it, or any other room, or just leave. If you stay I'll finish my history. Goodnight, Storm."
~~~ Storm's POV ~~~
WHY THE HELL DID I DO THAT?! Why did I sit next to him? Why am I staying? Why didn't I just leave at the beginning?!
I made my way down the upstairs hallway. I walked into the bathroom and groomed my hair, I went to sleep in -what is possibly- Mable's clothes. I fell asleep quickly on that king sized bed. What type of guest room is this?
I was in a deep, peaceful, serene sleep, only to be awoken by screaming...
