CLAYTON’S POV
I couldn’t focus on any of my classes I was too consumed with how I let my mate slip right through my fingers. I have been waiting for this day and I didn’t even get her name hell I don’t even know who she is. I keep replaying her retreating figure and the way her hips swayed and how fast she got away from. The bell rang signaling the beginning of lunch and my last two free periods. I was walking out of the class when our teacher Mr. Saunders stopped me.
“Clayton, good to have you back son.” He said bowing his head.
“Mr. Saunders please don’t do that. I don’t have the beta title yet. I’m still a student in your class just like everyone else.” I told him honestly.
“You got it, say what are you working on lately?” He asked
“Nothing really, a few theory and research papers, those college courses you suggested I take are kicking my butt, but I’m all caught up with the work, just waiting to hear back from the professors.” It’s no secret that I’m taking some premed classes online. Mr. Saunders pulled some strings with his professor buddies and got me in fast track to a degree sort of.
“Well I’ll let you know if I hear anything back.” He replied. I waved and walked out of the class and into the lunch room and met up with a few of my friends.
We sat at the table for a while as they engrossed themselves with mindless conversation and I drifted back to this morning and my retreating mate.
“Earth to Clayton!” Mike said as he waved a hand infront of my face.
“Sorry guys what’s up?” I asked jumping into conversation.
“Carlee asked who was that girl you were chasing after this morning, you seemed pretty keen on getting to her.” A girl Angie asked.
“I honestly have no idea who she was, I just know she’s my mate.” I said and everything went silent, mouths fell open eyes popped out of faces. None of our friends had found their mates but honestly it’s not like they were looking. All they really do is hook up with each other on the weekend, still don’t understand how we are all friends.
“Well, uh, that’s great, congratulations on that find man.” Justin another guy we hang out with chimed in.
“Thanks, it would be better if I knew who she was.” I replied rubbing the back of my neck. This is really bothering me. I mean how pathetic is it that I don’t know who the damn girl is but here I am telling people about her.
“Well what does she look like, I mean the school is only so big one of us is bound to know who she is.” The girl Carlee spoke up with a smile, but envy was clear in her eyes.
“Well she’s about five feet tall maybe taller, pretty slim, uh I didn’t see much she practically ran away from me, oh she has a streak of grey hair right in the back of her head the rest is like a dark brown.” I said waiting for their response but got the same ones that I had seen before.
“Do you guys know her?” I asked raising an eyebrow.
“The new girl.” They mumbled. I should have guessed and put two and two together.
“And do you all know her name?” I asked again, just then the lunch bell rang and they all jumped up and gathered their stuff grumbling byes.
“Guys wait I really need her name come one!” What was their deal. Before Carlee could leave I grabbed her arm.
“Carlee what’s her name? That’s all I need is just a little information.” I pleaded. She looked down at my hand on her arm and sighed.
“Avery Hunter, she’s the new trainer’s daughter. She doesn’t talk to anyone but the deaf wolf keeps to herself. Everyone’s scared of her because of what she did to Zoey Michaels her first day. Sorry Clayton I got to get to class, congratulations on your mate she’s lucky to have you.” She said pulling out of my grasp. Carlee was a pretty girl she has always had a crush on me but she’s just not my type. I looked up just as the girl Carlee said Avery hangs out with was exiting the building. I jogged up to her and tapped her on the shoulder she turned around wide eyed and it looked like she was holding her breath.
