AVERY POV

We were halfway back to the house when we stopped.

“Did you hear that?” I asked my dad looking around. I felt the gust of wind and heard the thud of his paws as he shifted.

“Rogues.” He said in my head.

“It sounds like a small pack. Where is Austin?” He asked.

“I’m headed back now.” He told us.

We took off towards the scent that was now getting stronger the faster we approached it. The Alpha would know when a wolf crosses the border, the pack knows when it’s a rogue. If we can stop it from crossing the border we can stop a pack wide panic. We reached the border right as they were getting ready to cross it.

“If you cross you will die. No questions asked.” I said as the one rogue barred his teeth. There was at least seven of them lurking in the shadows where we they thought we couldn’t see them. We could smell them though. I looked him in the eye and he took a fighting stance. Fine by me.

“Turn around and leave.” With that he let out a growl and charged me. I dodged his jaws and grabbed his tail and threw him into the closes tree with enough force to end his life.

The other ones emerged from the woods and ran at me and my dad. I watched him take down two with his paws crushing their wind pipes. As one approached me and snapped and growled. I leaped on top of me and I threw him off and looped me arm around the second ones neck and snapped it. The other 3 managed to get past us as my dad followed them I get off the ground and walked over to the one that had shifted back into its human form and was pulling himself away. I kicked him on to his back and stood over him.

“This is only the beginning, he will come fore you Avery.” He laughed and I stepped on his windpipe.

“Who!” I yelled. He continued to laugh and I stepped on his throat crushing it and killing him.

“Avery 2 of them making their way to the house, head them off.” I didn’t have time to shift. I took through the woods I could hear my dad behind me as I ran toward the house. Just then one of the rogues jumped on top of me from the left knocking me on the ground and I felt my left arm dislocate from my body. He bent down to sink his teeth into my neck and my dad knocked him off and growled. I used my right arm to grab onto his neck and pull myself off the ground.

“You’re hurt.” He said nudging my air.

“Don’t get distracted dad.” I told him just as the wolf went to launch at us again I pulled the gun from my waist band and shot him in the head. My left arm was throbbing and the joints were swelling but I could hear the last rogue running through the rest of the woods.

I started to run toward the house when I heard the last rogue change direction. I could hear his heart beat and his smell was getting stronger. I broke through the woods seconds after him and watched him stalk towards Alex and some guy that was with him.

MATE.

Oh come one I can’t do this right now. I saw Austin jump out of his truck and shift into his wolf and so did the other guy. His grey wolf about the same size as Austin. I had to shake it off. I started easing around the rogue and he heard me and charged and I shot him right before he even got to me causing him to shift not die just yet. I walked over to his body and bent down.

“You won’t win,” He said coughing up blood. “We know who you are.” I had heard enough. I shot him one last time in the chest ending his like.

I stood up and went into the back door and sat on the kitchen counter.

“FUCK!” I screamed moving my left arm. Still better than being set on fire. I opened the drawer under me and pulled out a thick wooden spoon and placed it in my mouth. I bit down on it as I pulled my arm over my head trying to set it back correctly but it wouldn’t go. I was breathing heard and sweating and I hadn’t even got it back in a bit. Just then someone walked in the kitchen from the living room and I held up my gun at them. My wolf was not in the mood for surprises. She was in pain and I was trying to keep by body from healing too quickly it felt like I was in Sandino again.
