Finally. After many years of hard work I had finally gotten here. College. I hauled my suitcase across the road after spotting a cab. I could feel the rain getting heavier as I neared the cab.
I jumped into the back after shoving my suitcase into the back. I leaned forwards in my seat and said, "Kingson, please." The driver nodded and stepped on the gas. Within 10 minutes I could see signs pointing in the direction of my new home for the next couple of years.
When the massive building came into view, my nerves kicked in. It was a very modern building with glass walls covering the front, giving me a clear view of the reception.
"That'll be £13.50 please." The driver said, breaking my trance. "Yeah, just wait a minute..." I dug around my purse until I found a fiver and a tenner. I handed both to him and said, "keep the change."
"Thanks, kiddo. Good luck, I can tell you're nervous." I smiled as I exited the cab and walked round to the back to get my stuff.
I watched the cab drive away and then turned and stared at the college. "Here goes nothing." I whispered to myself.
It's always been my dream to become a writer whether it was writing articles for a newspaper or the next hit series. I just wanted to express myself through words. It's all I've ever wanted.
From what I had seen so far, I think I'm going to fit right in. I walked up to the college and up to the main desk in the reception. The lady behind the desk glanced up at me and rather rudely said, "What can I do for you?"
I was quite taken back by her attitude, but I wouldn't let her ruin my day.
I cleared my through and held my head high, "I'm a new student here."
"I'm sure you are." She replied, not lifting her head the slightest.
"I, um, I was wondering where I can-"
Then she interrupted me, "Name?"
I wasn't about to waste my time being intimidated by a rude receptionist."Cassiopeia Smith." The lady searched through some files before coming across one with my name on it.
"Here, this should contain all the information you'll need including your room number, room key and schedule. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask any staff."
She handed me the file and key then simply went back to her work, completely ignoring me.
I rolled my eyes, but walked away whilst opening the file. First thing first: finding my dorm.
It must have taken me half an hour to find the room as I somehow read the map upside down. Number 328. Easy enough to remember. I unlocked the door, completely forgetting that I would be sharing a dorm with another student.
Half the bedroom was covered in all sorts of posters and there was a speaker sitting on the bedside table, belonging to my new roommate, blasting out heavy metal music. I didn't have anything against it, but I wouldn't choose to listen to it.
A girl with pink hair with an ombré into purple was perched on the edge of the bed as if she knew I was coming.
She jumped up with excitement when she spotted me lurching in the doorway.
"Come in! Come in! I'm Amberley, but you can call me Amber. You must be Cassiopeia." She extended her arm out and I shook it. "Nice to meet you. Um, Cassie's fine."
"Cool. Got it. I hope you don't mind what I've done with the room."
I shook my head, "Don't worry about it, it's your half of the room anyway."
I think it's fair to say that Amber is the most enthusiastic person I have ever met.
"So, what're you studying here?" I asked to make small talk.
"Medicine. I won't go through the details but I've got my heart set on becoming a doctor. What about you?"
"English, it's my dream to be a writer."
There was a moment of awkward silence before she asked what my schedule was.
I whipped it out and showed her. Within moments of looking she squealed. "What?" I asked frowning.
"You've got Mr Mendes as your main teacher!!" She was literally jumping out of her skin, "You're so lucky! I would kill to have him as my teacher."
"Mr Mendes? What's so special about him?" I asked confused.
"You obviously haven't seen him. I bet that he got out of university and came straight here. He's like 24 or something and I can tell you one thing. He is drop dead gorgeous. When he came last year, he was the only thing anyone talked about."
After she finished her rant I raised my eyebrows. "He can't be THAT good looking... can he?"
"Sister, you have not lived until you have laid eyes on this guy." We both burst into fits of laughter. I could already tell that we were going to be great friends.
