I knew that Amber would freak when I told her about being the Teacher Assistant. She would probably end up making a whole theory on what this would lead to.

In the end, I decided to keep it to myself. I'll tell her eventually and I'm sure she'll understand.

Instead of going straight back to my dorm, I decided to actually have a life and explore the school. I took my map out of my bag and ventured.

I ended up in the cafeteria, and because it was only 12:00, it was rammed. I searched for a seat or for someone that looked friendly. Giving up, I turned around ready to head out before I heard Amber. I should've know that she was going to be here.

I spotted her waving in the far corner, sitting with a group of people that looked friendly enough. I walked over, getting a few looks from various people for who knows what reason.

As I approached, I looked at the people sitting around her. Sitting to her right was a girl that had long locks of curled blonde hair and a pink skater dress with a fashionable knee length coat hanging in the back of her chair.

To Ambers left was a boy, who I noticed was holding a hand under the table, although I couldn't tell who's. He looked like the typical jock. Rugby jersey, short brown hair with chocolate coloured eyes.

Opposite the boy was a geeky looking boy with glasses and a laptop sitting in front of him. I personally didn't think that people who had glasses were geeks, but his top that read 'I'm a geek and I know it' kind of gave it away.

Finally, a girl with shimmery, long black hair sat opposite Amber. She was wearing a pretty white blouse and a short skirt with black tights and heels. Honestly, she looked kind of nice and relaxed. I couldn't have been more wrong.

"Hey, Amber. Um, is it ok if I sit here?" I gestured to the empty seat.
"Sure. Oh, by the ways guys, this is Cassie, she's new this year."
All of them waved except the one with black hair. I cleared my throat and said, "Hi, nice to meet you."

There were a few seconds of awkward science before Amber saved us all and spoke up again.

"This is Nathan," she said, gesturing to the jock sitting beside her, "and this is Juliet." She said pointing to the girl with the blonde hair.

"That is Alex," the geeky one, "and that is Valerie." She finished off by nodding towards the girl with the black hair.

Valerie just turned away in a huff and stormed out of the room. I gave Amber a questioning look. She shrugged and said, "Don't mind her, she's like that with new people sometimes."

"Sometimes? Great..." I sat down in an empty seat next to Alex. "So, is this the lucky girl who has Mr Mendes." Commented Juliet, "God, he really is a piece of art, isn't he."

I just nodded my head awkwardly, you know, just being awkward me. I looked at the clock and told the others that I was going to head back to the dorm room to study.

I exchanged numbers with them and headed off. As I turned the last corner to my dorm, I crashed into somebody and fell to the floor, dropping my books.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going." I apologised, then I looked up and saw the one and only Mr Mendes towering over me. He bent down and started to pick up my books.

"You really don't have to do that, I can manage." This was so embarrassing. Mr Mendes looked up at me and said, "No, I wasn't looking where I was going. I'm not in a rush anyway."

I smiled to myself and helped pick up my books. We stood up and he handed over my things. "Thanks..." I said, looking down. "Anytime, really." He flashed his award winning smile before walking away.

I leaned against the wall to process what had just happened. What was this man doing to me?
