The rest of the class went smoothly. Basically I stole glances at Mr Mendes without him noticing. I knew that I was never going to live this down with Amber. I exited the classroom and bought myself some time before Ambers lecture that I knew would take place.
I wasn't going to lie though, Mr Mendes was a God. Amber was right, he must have only just gotten out from university a year or two ago.
As I entered the dorm room, I suddenly had Amber right in front of me, looking like she was about to burst.
"So?!? What do you think?" She put on her best smile to win her award. The right to use the sentence. My silence was all that was needed for her to know what I thought.
Time to brace myself:
"I told you so!! Wasn't I right? He is literally God. Did anything interesting happen? OMG did you see his smile? It is literally award winning-""Ok ok, I get in I get it," I said, interrupting her, "look, I need to do my homework, can we fangirl about him later?" I asked with a pleading look on my face.
"Fine, but don't think you're getting away with this! We shall fangirl sooner or later." She left the dorm to get to her next class which she was already late for.
I examined the pile of homework Mr Mendes gave us, huffing. He was nice and all, but when it came to homework, he was the devil.
That night I stayed up until midnight trying to finish my homework. Amber still hadn't come back yet so I figured that she had just crashed somewhere.
I decided that I would go early again tomorrow to explain to Mr Mendes that I couldn't complete the homework. After all, it did mean that I would get more time with him.
At 9 o'clock the next morning I jumped out of bed and got ready for my first lesson. It started at 10 just I chose to get there at 9:45. That gave me 15 extra minutes with the God.
When I got there, I peeked inside the classroom once again, but there was no sign of Mr Mendes. I frowned and turned to face the one and only Mr Mendes.
"How's my dedicated, early student?" He asked.
"Um-I-I'm good. I just didn't get a chance to finish the homework. I tried and I'm really sorry but it was too much." I realised that I was rambling so I shut my mouth.
"No worries, I didn't expect anyone to finish the homework. I'm just looking for someone that can help me after class a bit. What's the name... oh right: a teachers assistant. I'm trying to find who is right for it and I decided to do that via the homework." He explained. That made a lot more sense now.
A teacher assistant? That would mean spending even more time with Mr Mendes and it would look good on my record!
"I've got my eye on someone." He quickly slipped out before disappearing into the classroom.
Soon enough, other student started to surround me, trying to remember where their seats were.
After class, Mr Mendes called out, "Cassie Smith, can you please wait here." He said this with a smile on his face but never the less, I couldn't help but he anxious. I nodded and retook my seat.
Once everyone had left, Mr Mendes called me over. I walked over with jelly legs. I couldn't have already done something bad, could I?
"I've looked through what you did if the homework and it was absolutely amazing. I would like to offer you the position to be my teacher assistant."
I nodded my head violently and a smile formed on his face.
"When do we start?" I asked.
"Is tomorrow ok with you?"
"Sure." I agreed and walked out.
When I got to the door I turned and said, "Thank you, Mr Mendes."
He looked me in the eye and said, "Outside of class, call me Shawn."
