Dan
Dan was nervous. He didn't know when they would get the divorce and why Phil didn't want to go behind his parents back to make it happen. He wasn't able to bring it up because Phil seemed to have his reasons. He was very good at concealing why he was doing what he was, and Dan found that a bit unsettling. He had no idea what was going through Phil's head or who he was as a person. Maybe he was an alcoholic but didn't let it show around friends and family, or a drug addict, a serial killer, although, guessing by how nice his family seemed to be he doubted Phil could really be anything bad. Besides, he mentioned a steady job, but how did Dan know? He had never heard of Phil Lester before the marriage. Heck, he only knew Phil's last name because it was part of his last name now.
Sometimes when he was thinking in his head he didn't think about what was coming out of his mouth, all he could really hear coming from his mouth was the name Matt, because his train of thought switched from Phil to Matt. His boyfriend was usually very forgiving, yet that was when Dan mixed colours with whites and ruined one of Matt's shirts or a pair of boxes. However he didn't seem to be taking the marriage thing all that well. Dan was starting to understand why, this was a big deal, and usually a deal between to people and love, Matt was probably upset that he wasn't the one who got married to Dan in Vegas. That was the most reasonable explanation in Dan's eyes, that Matt was jealous and beside himself. That had to be it.
"What is your deal with Matt?" Phil snaps which causes Dan to jump. Part of him hoped that Phil would be asleep or not listening. Although it made more sense he was awake, he had been agitated since they talked about his sister. It was evident all the through out their quiet dinner and when he crawled into bed. It was practically radiating off the poor guy.
"Excuse me?" Dan asks, freezing in his spot.
"All you do is talk about him like he's a god or something. Why are you so attached to him?" Phil turns around and faces Dan's back, which Dan is glad about. If Phil was looking at his face and seeing how caught off guard he was by the question he wasn't sure what he'd do.
Dan takes in a deep breath. "Because he likes me." He states simply, putting no thought into his answer. Of course Matt liked him, they were dating.
"Explain."
Dan sighs and turns over to face Phil so he can read his emotions. "He likes me, he likes who I am, what I look like. He thinks I'm pretty, he's about the only one." Dan mumbles as his eyes drift to the bed sheets between them. He really liked Matt for so much more than that, not like he'd tell Phil about all the wonderful things Matt has done to make Dan feel like he was worth it.
"You like him so much, because he thinks you're pretty? That doesn't make sense." Turning to see Phil was a bad idea, the moon gave no light on his facial features.
"Before he came along, I had no one, I was no one. Now I have him, and now I'm not no one, I'm pretty. He's the only one whose ever told me that." Dan explains. "It's nice, being appreciated, it was also so forgiven until Matt came along." Dan looks Phil in the eyes, or where he assumes his eyes are.
"If it makes a difference, I think you're pretty." Phil tells him.
Dan freezes. Pretty. Phil thought he was pretty. However, his pretty was a different pretty than Matt's. Matt only told him he thought he was pretty when they were making out, or cuddling. No other time. Phil's definition of pretty and Matt's definition where as different as day and night. Matt only told him he was pretty when they was evident attraction between them, Phil just said it because he believed it. Which was weird seeing as they had only known each other for a few days and Phil could only see Dan's face in the moonlight, so it wasn't even in full colour. Did he think the moonlight made him pretty? "Y-You do?" When Dan finally speaks his voice is so quite and disbelief is extremely evident.
