Chapter XX - Back where we started

Alia: We were heading back to our shelter. To the place where everything started. Our hearts were full of hope and blessed by some of the last people left alive. The final battle was very close and whatever would be there we would fight it and win this war.
15 minutes later, we had started to check every corner in there. In the office, where I had my argument with Danny related to the patient zero, I had accidentally pressed a button which opened a secret hatch. None of us had any idea about such place. Even Nero was worried of such thing and he was here for like 23 years.

Danny: I was nervous. The whole time we spent looking for the antidote and all this time was under our feet. I had never ever thought of such thing.

Nero: Finally! This nightmare would end soon. We would manage to complete our mission. All we had to do was to go down and everything would end in a way or another.

'Ready, boys?' Alia asked loading her gun.

Both me and Danny approved.

'Remember: whatever awaits down there, we won't gonna get back. Even if we die, better dead and heroes than alive and cowards.' I encouraged them and went straight to the great unknown.

We stepped more and more on the stairs through the darkness. At the base of the staircase, something activated fire torches on both walls ahead of us. Few steps away it was a door. Opening it we had seen a very long hall. Since when was all these things in here? Walking on the hall slowly, I was expecting to see things such as guardians or at least to be protected by traps, but nothing.
We had reached the end and opened the second door. The wooden door revealed us a giant circular room. On the other side was the door that we had been looking for. "Control Room" it said the banner on it. The clapping of someone scared me for a second. Somewhere in front of us, Adrian was getting out from a lower level, clapping and smiling at us.

'Well done, my dears. In the end we had met again, but now with no other secrets.' He said.

I had drawn my weapon with the other hand and threatened him to leave or I'll shoot.
