The Grocery store was silent as usual. Kat and I stopped in to pick up some things for this party tonight. When everything at the library calmed down she started talking about this cute new guy going to the party. And it made me think about the guy from the library, from my dream. Then she started ranting about how she hopes the town bimbos, Lindsey and her crew wouldn’t show up and crash. But I told her that I doubt we can keep it just between all of us. There are no such things as secrets here, I would know.
She went on and ignored my comment. I thanked her in my head just because I didn’t want to talk about any of that right now. “I’m so happy you decided to listen to me and go to this party. You need it and you need to find a cute guy, someone knew, to help me forget my troubles and have fun. I knew she was right, but I was just worried. I haven’t been to a party since the night before everything with Ray happened. But that was one of those parties which included the popular crowd, since me and Ray broke up, all the people I “thought” were my friends no longer are. They were just hanging with me because of Ray, but I guess I had it coming.
No this is not one of those parties, this is a party that has a bunch of people who actually get along and like each other them not for whom they are with. That thought was the only thing keeping me sane. All my friends. Laid back party. No drama.
“Oh God. It’s Comatose Hailey, again. Are you on this earth right now or are you off somewhere else?” I snapped out of it and saw Kay standing in front of me holding Pizza Rolls. “I said four cheese?” She held out the bags, “or pepperoni?”
“I vote for the four cheese. But I would get both, just in case.” She looked down at the bags and nodded in agreement, then scooped up 3 more bags of each. “That’s why I have you around, for the hard decisions.” She smiled
“That was a hard decision? How are you living?” I said with a serious face but of course I was joking.
“Ha ha ha….very funny. You sarcastic hoe!” she walked over to the cart and nudged my arm. We both laughed at how stupid we were. Kat is my best friend and we have been through so much together, I love her to death like she was my blood. “Are you okay Hails?” she always knew when something was wrong.
“Yeah. I mean things could be better, but what can I do about it ya know?” She looked apologetic at me and nodded.
“Yeah I know. The best you can do is move on and not think about it.” I nodded. “So what happened with the library?” she asked while she looked at a selection of soda. I told her everything, between the talk with Ray and then my dream and mystery man.
“Ohhh sounds romantic. And Rays an asshole, you should just forget about him.” How can I forget him if he constantly tries to bother me and talk, not to mention his friends doing it too, like the whole thing with Lindsey.
“Yeah your right. I just wanna hurry up and get to this party and forget it all!” that made Kat smile and she started dancing and she made me join her in the middle of the isle. I looked around and there were a couple of people looking and watching, but I didn’t care. We were dancing like idiots and it made me laugh.
“Alright then let’s go!” then she let out a loud “yerp” noise she makes and grabbed my arm leading me to the checkout counter.
As I gave my credit card to the cashier I looked at a magazine. Nothing very interesting just another celebrity pregnancy and 4 secrets to stay thin. Kat was talking the cashier’s ear off till he told her to shut up. But they were both laughing so I think they knew each other. He asked her about Eric and that’s when I started dozing off again.
Everything went into a blur then out of nowhere it all cleared away and I focused on someone outside the door enjoying a cigarette. Mystery man. I tried getting Kats attention but she waved me off too deep in conversation to hear what I had to say. He must have been looking around when he stopped and caught my eye. He quickly put out his smoke and just stood there with his hands in his pockets smiling. He had on that stupid red vest that I had only worn 6 months ago before I quit and got my job at Freezies. Two times in one day, a weird coincidence?
I finally got Kats attention after all her and the cashiers laughter ended. She noticed me staring outside with my blue eyes as big as baseballs, she later complemented. “What is it?” she followed my gaze. “Oh what a hottie. Do you know him?” I thought back to the library and how nice his eyes were and I imagined how amazing they look in the moonlight.
“Sorta. He’s the guy from my dream and the library.” I then looked away from his gaze and picked up a couple of bags filled with out purchases.
“Oh. Shit, what are you gunna do?” I paused for a second and looked over at him. I hated not knowing his name and having to call him mystery man but he was truly mysterious looking.
“WE are going to grab these bags head to the car and head to the party. I don’t wanna make a big deal. It might be a mistake.
“Well for your sake I hope you’re wrong.” She looked at me and smiled.
“I hope your right.” When we both looked back at him, he was gone, disappeared as if we imagined him standing there. Disappointment fell over me as I didn’t know if I would see him again.
