Rennie
Only five seconds left till I had to leave the car and enter the stupid snobby life of a boarding school.
"Mom, why are you making me do this?" I asked. I tried to keep the whiny tone out of my voice but I knew I was failing miserably.
Mom sighed and parked the car.
"I'm not making at you-" - I glared at her - "Okay, maybe I am but this will be good for you, chick-a-dee. We both know it."
She didn't mention why it would be good for me. No one ever did. That was something that was buried in the past - sort of.
"Fine," I grumbled, grabbing my leopard print duffel.
I pushed open the door and got out. The small car shivered as I slammed the door. My mom got out and hurried towards me.
"Renadra, please, I don't want to leave you on an argument." Mom begged.
"Well don't make me stay here, then," My voice was a little sharper than intended because she'd use my real name.
Mom bit her lip. "I have to," she whispered. "Bye, Rennie, I love you." She stood on her tiptoes to kiss my head. "Call me." she said, clambering into the car.
I watched as she revved the engine then raced down the road, leaving me in front of the dark, uninviting, steel gates.
