Chapter Three

“To multiply Matrix’s is a little bit more tricky then adding them. You just don’t do it straight across.” Ms. Gray said in monotype voice. Half the class was either asleep or passing notes with their friends. I felt like a zombie too but I forced myself to listen to Ms. Gray’s lecture. Making notes as I listened.

“Does anyone know the name of the number that I just found?” Ms. Gray directed to the class. The room continued to be silent. Slowly I raised my hand. “Ahh Camilla. Do you know what it is?”

“Is it called the determinant?” I said while looking at the word written in my notes with 3 lines underlining it.

“Why yes, very smart Camilla” Ms. Gray enthused before getting back to her lecture.

I paid attention to the rest of her class but when the bell rang it was such a relief. I hurried out of there just as fast as everyone else. Before entering Mr. Arts room, I caught a glance of Marisa. She was walking in the middle of two people. A very pretty red haired junior, who had pretty porcelain skin and light freckles that accented her green eyes, and then on her left walked Dylan. “Hey Cami!” Marisa called when she saw me.

I walked up to them to return the greeting.

“You know Cami? I meant her in history class yesterday.” Dylan said

“I bet I meant her first.” Marisa said

The red haired female laughed at the sight of her best friends

“They are so weird sometimes,” she told me “by the way I’m Lauren.” she said as she left out her arm for me to shake.

“Cami,” I said and returned her hand gesture “nice to meet you.”

“Great!” Dylan shouted suddenly “Now that you know Marisa and Lauren you have no excuse not to go to the Beach Party.” Lauren smiled as she figured out that he’s caught me in a trap.

“She won’t be going with us.” Marisa said factually

“Why not?” Lauren asked in dismay.

“Because she’ll be going with Wesley.”

I blushed a deep red as Lauren and Dylan stared at me in dismay.

“Already? But Wesley doesn’t go out with anyone! Why you?” Lauren said jealously

“Hey now Lauren,” Marisa scolded “We should be screaming with joy for her. She got asked out by the hottest guy in the school!”

“More like the world.” muttered Lauren.

“We are happy for you.” Marisa told me

“Thanks” I replied. But I realized that Marisa was the only one not personally affected with Wesley’s very limited interest in me. Suddenly I remembered our conversation yesterday.

“Wesley is hard to impress. After Sarah’s incident he hasn’t gone out with a girl since her. A lot of people think Sarah was his first girlfriend. I only thought you were new because Wesley was staring at you and I thought he had no interest of any Lexington High girls.”

“Well this sounds good to me.” I had said

“Oh Cami, If you were to go out with him you’d be the number 1 hated girl in the school. Everyone wants Wes.”

“Even you?”

“At one point, yes. But now were just really good friends. That’s why I could tell he likes you. I don’t know what you did but you said something right.”
