Chapter seven

“How do I look?” Marisa asked, then she twirled around on the tip of her feet. This made her costume billow beneath her.

“Fantastic!” I announced and really she did.

Marisa was dressed up in a dark mahogany red velvet and black dress. Her hair was pulled up in an elaborate hair-do. She looked wonderful but it would be the facial features that would make her start looking like her designed part: The wicked Stepmother from Cinderella.

“Thanks Cami! Could you help me out with the facial features though?”

For an half and hour I spend time attaching a crooked nose, warts and applying makeup on Marisa’s face.

Suddenly Mrs. Penson comes strolling into the ladies make-up room right when we finish.

“Places everyone! I know this is just the dress rehearsal but we have to make sure we are perfect before the big performance day!”

Our Theater had been working hard for months to be able to perform Cinderella. At the end of first semester our school always holds a performance right before Christmas break. Then once we get back for second semester we go out and compete with other schools that performed the same play as us.

We are now only a week away from Break and the theater is hectic and stress about finals and grades are not helping the attitude in the atmosphere either.

As the actors and actresses make their way up on stage I station my self behind the stage with Wesley. As setup crew we had designed the whole decoration for the play but we also have to make sure the scenes are placed on stage at the prompt time and in a quick fashion.

The rehearsal runs smoothly and before we know it the last scene with Cinderella and her prince dancing comes to an end.

“Awesome job guys, we are definitely ready for the big day!” Mrs. Penson calls. As the actors and actresses come back stage to dress out of their costumes, Wesley, me and the rest of the set up crew clear the ball room decorations from the stage.

“Would you like to grab some food and a milkshake at Burgers and Fries?” Wesley asks me

I agree and try my best to not look too enthusiastic.

Once the Stage is clean Mrs. Penson dismisses us from the after school rehearsal, I go back stage and grab my keys and purse.

“See you there!” I call to Wesley as I hop into my truck.

Once we arrive at Burgers and Fries, I follow Wesley inside the restaurant. Everything about the little food place screams adorable. The theme is definitely older styled with checker print tiles on the floor, red walls with one big checkered stripe, red stools and 50’s styled painting and wall ornaments.

We find a seat at a booth and ask for two Mountain Dew’s when the waitress arrives.

“I don’t know what to order.” I say while pondering the menu.

“I think I’m going to go with their Calzone and a strawberry milk shake.” Wesley answers.

When the waitress appears I order a bacon burger and a chocolate milkshake while Wesley gets his order.

Wesley’s and my relationship has been confusing. We’ve been hanging out alone more frequently in the last couple weeks on little dates, like we were now, but nothing official or romantic has ever came across. Which makes me a little bit relieved, just being Wesley’s friend has been more then rewarding. I found out that he is a whiz in math and ever since I’ve been studying with him I’ve made an A on all of my quizzes and tests. He is also very relaxing to talk to and always knows what to say to me even when Marisa’s bubbly attitude fails to cheer me up. I decide that being Wesley’s friend is just what I want.
