Chapter six

“Can you please explain to me why Ms. Gray loves to smother us with homework?” Marisa asked. Finally she closed her math text book with a slam.

“Frustrating isn’t it?” I replied while gathering my long blond hair and tying it into a ponytail.

“I think I’ve decided that I am officially enemies with Algebra… math makes no sense to me.”

“Here, maybe I can help” I offered as I pushed my history book aside and opened her math text book to the assigned homework page.

Marisa handed me her notebook.

“It’s number 27 that I’m having trouble with.” she said

“So your having trouble with synthetic division. It’s very simple if you turn over the division sign place the two here and then place the rest of the equation inside the division house.”

“Oh, I get it now, Thanks Cami I don’t know how you get all this math stuff!”

“I have a hard time with math.” I confessed “That’s why I spend so much time studying it so that way I make sure I know what I’m learning.” I explained.

“I wish we were in the same class then I might actually understand what’s going on.”

“Well since were not we should just do more study groups like we are now.” I replied.

“Definitely!” Marisa replied enthusiastically.

Right after school I had gone home with Marisa, we were doing our weekend homework because tomorrow we had plans to go to the movies with Dylan, Lauren and Wesley. We both had our school books laying around on her floor and she had a bowl of snacks for us to eat while we worked on our homework. Two hours after starting my homework I finally dropped my pencil and closed my books.

“Finally, I’m done.” I say in relief

“Me too, my brain hurts now.” Marisa said while bringing her hand up against her forehead.

We both laugh.

“I had lots of fun,” I told her

“Me too! I guess then I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I gather up my stuff, throw it into my book bag and then give Marisa a hug.

“Bye!” We both say before I left her home and hopped into my big red Ford truck, which is now finally out of the shop and running as smoothly as ever. I pulled out of Marisa’s drive way departing from her homey 4 story suburban house, then drive out of her neighborhood and return to Eraser.

When I returned to Eraser Mom, Dad and Grandpa were not home. Grandma told me that they went up to the Flea market to buy some extra horse care.

“Is it alright if I take a nap, sweetie? Your not hungry are you? I can make you a snack instead…” Grandma said but a big yawn stopped her mid sentence

“No, I’m fine Grandma get your rest.”

“Alright, Thank you” She said. Before heading up the stairs she gave me a kiss on the fore head. “The others should be back soon.” She said before disappearing upstairs.

Before having lunch I set my book bag in my room and then went into the kitchen. I pulled out Grape Jelly from the refrigerator and then peanut butter and bread from the cupboard. While preparing my PB&J I can’t help but stare out the kitchen window. For the first time in what feels like forever no one was holding a lesson in the out door arena. A forbidden thought entered my mind that I fought to push away.
