*Third person*

Three days passed, all of which Gracie never woke nor showed signs of improving, but she never got any worse; Cody never left her side. There were deep bags under his eyes and he growled at anyone, aside from Kaycie and Dr. Jenkins, that came too close. Hunter was “kindly” exiling himself in the opposite side of the castle to avoid coming after Gracie again.

Cody refused to eat and when Kaycie screamed at him, he only snapped that he'd eat when Gracie did. He felt hollow knowing that she might not survive; he had finally began to discover his true feelings.

He stroked her pale cheek with his thumb, as he had done for days now. Even if she did survive she would become a demon. She was bitten by a Vampire, causing the transformation; Cody blamed himself. There was no way he wanted her to become like him, though he can’t even remember his change; it had been so long ago. When he was five, it happened, perhaps four... He shook his head. None of that mattered now. Not until Gracie woke up.

Ever so vaguely Emily's warning a few days before swam into his mind. An accident.... pain…What other thing had she said? Wait... she said she'd wake up! Didn’t she?

"Kaycie?" He croaked, lifting his head from Gracie's hospital bed. She had refused to leave him completely alone, so he knew she was on the other side of the door. Nymph’s always had good hearing, so he never had to raise his voice.

The door creaked open slowly and she poked her head in, her blue hair unkempt and her eyes sad. "Yes?" She murmured.

"Can you get a phone down to Emily? I need to speak with her."

Kaycie's eyes instantly became hopeful and she shut the door; he could hear her sprinting down the hallway. The other slaves had come to visit but he had growled at them all, keeping them at a distance from Gracie. Most of them gave up after a day. All but Tucker that is. The little boy had insisted on being there when he could and Cody had just given up at this point. Sometimes he brought Jackie, who sat respectfully in silence with her head bowed, her wings drooped, so unlike Tucker, who was determined to keep Gracie in the loop by talking animatedly. Cody never listened, just sat stroking her hand and staring off in space.

His phone let out a trill and he opened it with one hand. "Emily."

A sigh came through the speaker. "I thought I told you not to worry? What’s this I hear about you starving yourself?"

"Emily, she won’t wake up!" His voice was tinged with agony.

"Of course not! She won’t wake up for another 2 hours. She’s going to be perfectly fine.

Gracie will laugh at your silliness. She'll be perfectly normal." Her voice turned to disapproval in a puzzling instant. "Cody I know what you’re going to do. Don’t you dare! You have no right to keep her in bed for another three days. She was bitten, not pushed down a hill-" He hung up at the end of her speech and got to his feet to find some food. Gracie would not want to see him like this. I should probably take a shower too... he thought to himself. With a kiss to Gracie's forehead he left the room to prepare.

*Gracie's POV (2 hours later)*

I was first aware of a horrible stiffness in my neck so uncomfortable I didn’t dare try to move it. I groaned, trying to open my eyes but the bright light made me squeeze them shut again. "Gracie?!" a voice exclaimed. There was running footsteps and someone’s hand was in mine. "Gracie? C'mon open your eyes."

I tried again but the light hurt worse this time. The voice seemed to understand and in a few moments there was a click. "Try now, sweetheart." The voice encouraged gently. Bracing myself against the possible sudden light I squinted my eyes open. I breathed out a sigh of relief when there was only a soft lamb nearby. Now I blinked gratefully and glanced around.
