"I beg your pardon?” I jumped at the sound of Alec's raised voice behind me. Of all the times, now he shows up.
"Alec! Where have you been? Hunter bit me and then Cody- and then I-…” I was silenced by the look Cody was giving me. "And now I look like an idiot talking to thin air..." I muttered to myself, but strangely I found it hard to care. I met Alec’s soft gray eyes with my defeated ones.
Aku was looking at me in amusement before he turned to narrow his eyes at Cody. "She's not insane, there is a ghost standing there." He turned to nod his head at Alec who eyed him in mild surprise to which Aku answered, "Yes I can see you. Gracie, you don’t need the necklace anymore, Dear. Angels can see ghosts without help. If you could please give it to Cody I’m sure he'll stop shooting you worried glances."
When I glanced at Cody his head was down but I could sense he was more than a little bit embarrassed about being caught. Slowly, I unlatched the necklace from my neck then walked over and quietly placed the necklace in his hand, making him close his fist around it. Instantly, his eyes scanned the room before I could even say anything. His gaze stopped at Alec and widened. Alec smirked sardonically. “Good afternoon, Demon.”
"I’m sorry." He whispered to me but I waved him off and patted his back. He snapped out of it soon enough, shaking his head and turning back to Aku. "Now what’s this about Gracie being kidnapped at birth?"
"Just as it sounds. She was obviously kidnapped very soon after she was born and taken to Earth. Hunter probably already knows what she is and paid the thieves to have her instead of what they intended to do with her. They raised her and then gave her to him.” Aku shrugged. "He got more than he bargained for, though.” The Angel snickered mischievously, making his blue eyes glitter.
"What are you talking about, Angel boy?" Cody growled.
The Angel tried desperately keep a straight face but failed miserably and cracked a bright smile. "I’m only saying that he doesn’t know how female Angels are is all. He is totally unprepared and unknowledgeable about the other gender of Angels. Male Angels are made to be compatible with their nature. Hunter clearly doesn’t understand that if he wants to take her for his mate."
I cocked my head to the side and sat there for a moment. Everything suddenly seemed mildly uninteresting. "I’m bored,” I turned to Cody, yanking on his shirt.
Aku instantly erupted into laughter, clutching his stomach. "What? I really am bored!" I pouted and crossed my arms, offended that my issue was not being taken care of; He just laughed harder. Cody just looked at me in utter shock and confusion.
"Gracie, how can you be bored after what he just said? Don’t you want to find out what he has to tell you about being an Angel?" I thought about it a moment before stating that no, I didn’t care what Aku knew; I was bored and I wanted him to play with me, during which time I jumped on his back and demanded a piggyback ride. "Gracie! No! No, get off of me." He demanded and pried me from his back, placing me in front of him. "What’s going on with you? You’re acting like a five year old!"
Aku of course was still laughing but more quietly now. "Gracie could you come here, dear?" He called lightly and I skipped over to him as he pulled something from his pocket. "Would you like to go play with this car over there while I talk to Cody?" He gestured to a bright red race car in his hand. I felt my face light up and snatched the car and ran off into the corner to play with my new found toy.
