Haha...so I just realized that when I tried to publish this, it didn't work...sorry. That's why a chapter wasn't updated during the weekend...but it's here now??

Chapter 9

Dhairya's P.O.V.

*You are...my cousin?*

"Yes. From your mom's side."

*My...mom?*

"Yup. Is this all a bit much for you to take in right now? If it is, I can slow down a little and take this a little slower? I just repeated myself. Oh god, I'm so nervous right now. Wait, ignore everything that just happened right now. Yes, from your mom's side."

*Uhmm...it isn't that much to take in. It's fine. I just need to...process it."

I couldn't wrap my head around it. How could some one like him, be related to someone like me? He was so nice and good-looking and I'm...me. Maybe he got the wrong person? Yeah. That must be it. He got the wrong person. So why was I so disappointed?

*Maybe you have the wrong person?*

"I don't think so. Dhairya Layton, right?"

*Yes...*

"Then I'm pretty sure that I have the right person. How many people have the name Dhairya Layton? Because I'm pretty sure that it is a very rare name."

At that moment, my dad decided to interrupt us. He stared directly at me, sending silent threats through his eyes. I unconsciously took a step back and shrunk down a bit.

"Sir? May I ask who you are talking to? Not yourself, I presume. And Dhairya, why in hell are you waving your hands like a madman? Have you gone crazy?"

"George...do you not know sign language?"

That reminds me. How did Vincent understand what I was saying? I was getting a bit excited so my signing must have been faster than usual. Or the usual when I'm talking to other people. I was waving my hands really quick, so how does he understand? I met a lot of people who understood sign language, but not to the point where they understand it when I do it that quickly.

"Dhairya!"

I quickly snapped out of my thoughts and looked at my more than furious dad. He hated when I didn't pay attention to him. It was rude.

"I asked you to go cook dinner for us. I can't cook, remember? I think that you should go cook for us unless you want for us to have a burnt dinner."

I quickly nodded and scurried into the kitchen. What should I cook? I don't know what Vincent likes to eat. Should I cook some tacos? What if he doesn't like tacos? Ah! I know, I'll cook spaghetti. You can't really go wrong with spaghetti, right?

I took out a pot and added some water to it before placing it on the stove. I let it sit there so it could boil. As it began to boil, I took out the pasta and placed them on the side. I also took out the ground beef, onions, garlic, green bell pepper, can diced tomatoes, the tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. As I began washing all the ingredients, Vincent came in and rolled up his sleeves. He washed his hands and began dicing the green bell pepper. I stared at him and he looked back before smiling softly.

"Dhairya? To be completely honest with you, I came here today because...well, I know what your dad has been doing to you. I know all the abuse you have been through and I want to tell you the background story of your mom and dad. Maybe you can understand why your dad does what he does, maybe you won't, but at least you'll know."

I stiffened slightly at the mention of my mom. He knows about her? Well, duh, Dhairya, of course he knows her. She was his aunt. But, does that mean that he knows about what I did? He'll hate me, and even though I've only known him for a few minutes, really, I don't want him to hate me.

"Dhairya? Your mom was a werewolf."

...A werewolf? How? Aren't werewolves only found in stories and myths? They can't really exist, right? If they do, how would they fit in with society? How do they not get caught?

"Well, to be fair...I am a werewolf, too. So is Kaelen and Pierce and half of the company's employees. I think you should know at least one of them?"

I meekly nodded and began cutting up other veggies. I was hanging around werewolves. People that could have killed me in a second?

"Okay, good. I want to tell the story of your mom and our pack. But, I want you to listen to the entire story before interrupting. Can we do that?"

I pouted slightly. He was treating me like a kid again. I nodded anyway. He doesn't hate me, even though he knows what I did. I think that that in itself is already a big accomplishment. Maybe he can be my best friend...cousin. Whatever.

"Your mother was the pack's Head Warrior. The real reason your mother and father got together was because your father is your mother's mate. A mate is like a soulmate, someone who you will love unconditionally. So, of course since your father wanted a child so much, your mother adopted you.The reason she didn't give birth to his actual child was that all her eggs were already destroyed in a rogue attack a few years back.  She did it in such secrecy that your father never knew until she came out to him about it.

When your father knew, he fought a lot with her and she came to the pack, seeking advice. I think she had come for a week. I was ten, so I barely remember her. All I can remember about this was that I thought the person who made this woman cry, was a big piece of poop."

He stopped and chuckled before throwing in the onions, green pepper, garlic, and the ground beef in a large saucepan. I stirred the pot and waited for him to continue the story.

"Our name is the Royale Wings Pack because the first Alpha of our pack had an angel as a mate. As you can tell, their love somehow worked out because we are still here and alive. Anyways, your mom got the advice she needed and tried to come back to your house and fix the relationship that she and your father had. However, your father was still mad and he began hurting you. That's when your mother couldn't take it anymore and...you know the rest."

I nodded sadly and drained all the grease from our mixture. I threw in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and the tomato paste in the pan before seasoning it with my carefully picked out herbs. I began simmering the spaghetti sauce and stirred it occasionally while Vincent kept talking.

"I am the current Beta and Kaelen is the Alpha. Although we are strong there is one person that can make our will weak. Our mate. With a mate, we want to love them endlessly. We dislike it when our mates are sad or upset, so when our mates ask something of us, we do it to the best of our ability. Mating is a cycle.

You finish the cycle when they mark you. Once they mark you, you will have a tattoo that shows that you belong to them. Not in the controlling way, just that the mate is off-limits. Overall, being mates means that you will love, cherish, and help them whenever. We aren't bad, but if you hurt someone's mate, they will most likely hurt you."

I nodded and smiled. Mates sound like a wonderful thing...
