"Red alert Dave!" Terezi scolds. "Get everything blocked off!"

You nod and quickly grab Gamzee. "Sorry," you place him at the entrance of the door, hoping he will keep it protected and, hopefully, blocked off.

Terezi stares you down. "Not with him you doofus!" she smacks you on the top of the head with her cane. She walks back to the front of the ship, carefully navigating it.

You can hear growling coming from the other side of the dark red door. "Crap, it's coming up fast; the monster is going to get to us eventually."

Gamzee lies on the floor next to the door. "Gamzee," you sigh, grabbing him by the top of his hood. "You're going to get eaten by the monster."

He laughs. "I don't give a shit."

You can hear a loud growl, and you guess everyone can too, because you all turn your heads to the door. "We need to figure out something quick!" Terezi shouts.

You nod and take out your sword. "I got this,"

A loud slam comes from the other side of the room, and you all turn around. You lunge yourself at the small figure and tackle it, putting your sword to its neck. The small creature rolls out from your grasp and you can see a hook appear in its hands. The figure comes at you, but you swing it around you to the tip of the room with your sword. You run at it, stopping it from moving anywhere. "DAVE STOP IT'S ME!"

You flip up your shades to see Karkat. 'It's way to shady in here.' "Oh, Kitkat, it's just you."

He growls and pushes you off of him. "Damn Strider, I come up to ask you something and you fight me."

"Ask ahead." You balance your sword on the floor and put your elbow on the handle.

Before Karkat can say anything Gamzee screams. "THE MONSTER IS INSIDE!" he screeches.

A large monster comes erupting through the door. It shoots out a fierce growl, and you are shivering. Not nearly as much as Karkat is though. He's gripping onto you and buried under your red cape. "Daaaave what thE FUCK IS THAT?!" the troll screeches.

You whip back out your sword. "I got this Ki-"

Terezi pokes the monster. "What in the world? It's so soft..." she rubs against the monster, making a purring noise she most likely learned from Nepeta.

"GET AWAY FROM THAT TEREZI!" Karkat shouts.

The monster pushes away Terezi and she lands on the cold ground with an 'oof' as the monster makes its way to you and Karkat. He makes a squealing noise and digs further into your cape and you growl.

"LISTEN UP HERE MONSTER!" you stand up straight, making sure to address it. "YOU CAN PUSH MY FRIENDS! YOU CAN SCARE THEM! BUT YOU WILL NEVER TAKE AWAY MY KITKAT!" you flip up your shades, giving it a serious look as Gamzee and Terezi give you a 'wow-thanks-a-lot' face.

The monster continues its advances and you sink into Karkat a little. "Okay... that didn't work."

"WE'RE GUNNA DIE!" Karkat wails.

"I'm too young to die!" you cry out.

Karkat grabs your face. "No matter what happens Dave, I will always love you!"

"NOOO DON'T SAY THAT!"

Karkat gives a confused look. "What do you mean? Isn't this one of those like... isn't this like... Titanic?"

You shake your head as he continues rambling. The monster towers over you as you both scream and close your eyes.

You soon hear giggling from Karkat once you're done screaming at the top of your lungs. With caution, you twist around. You then remember, 'we aren't in a horror sci-fi movie'

Kara giggles in Karkat's grasp as he tickles her. You smile as Terezi jumps on top of you. "That was fun!" she happily shouts. "We need to come here more often!"

You laugh a little. "I haven't played like that in a long time."

Karkat sits up and Kara slides down the slide. You watch her exit into the dining area and jump into Feferi's lap. Gamzee and Terezi disperse, following Kara quickly after.

Karkat rolls over to you and lays his head into your lap. "I know you didn't willingly do that. What did those goofballs do to you?"

You run your fingers through his hair. "Nothing. Gamzee and Terezi just started... playing and I got sucked in. It was fun to pretend that I was in god tier once again, along with Gamz and Terezi. It was fun."

The smaller of you two smiles. "For the short five minutes I was in that little play, it was fun. We should come here more often."

You lay your back against the net and Karkat lies on your chest. You continue playing with his hair and he purrs. "Ya know Dave," he starts. "How long has it been since we finished the game?"

"A bit over nine years." You sigh. "It's been a long time."

"Yeah..." he trails off.

You both sit in silence until a head peaks through the entrance of the ladder. "What in the world are you two doing?"

Karkat screeches and rolls off of you. "ERIDAN WHAT THE HELL?! YOU SCARED THE LIVIING SHIT OUT OF ME! NEXT TIME SAY THAT YOU'RE COMING UP YOU ILLERTERATE DO-"

You cup your hand over Karkat's mouth as he continues hurling insults and squirming. "What he meant is you startled us. Right Kitkat?"

He grumpily rolls his eyes as you back up a little, giving Karkat his space. "So, Eridan, what the hell do you want?"

Eridan raises his head a little, bonking it on the top of the ladder. He rubs his head and slides under the rung and sits by you. "Food. They want their food, and they are waiting for you."

"Why?" You begin. "We ate dinner beforehand purposefully so we had more opportunities to talk."

"Oh..." Eridan stares into space. "A-anyway, Fef and I talked to the city council like you recommended."

You jump a little with excitement as Karkat gives a confused face. "Really? What did they say?"

"They said they'll talk with us on the matter more tomorrow." Eridan smiles. "Hopefully Terezi can arrest those evil vigilantes!"

"Terezi... isn't a cop... right?" Karkat mutters.

"An amateur one. Not one that solves murder cases like that, but she believes she will get a promotion soon." You answer.

"I thought that was what detectives do..." Karkat whispers to himself.

"So are you going into the lobby or not?" Eridan asks, heading to the slide.

You nod and follow after him as he slides down. You stop and look behind you, Karkat staring at you. A deep sigh comes out of your mouth and you crawl back over. "Something wrong Karkles?"

He shakes his head. "No, just thinkin' is all."

"What you thinkin' about?" You sit back beside him, your hands making sure you don't fall over.

Karkat buries his head in your shirt. "I... don't know. Just life... I guess."

You rub circles on the small troll. "Hmm... anything about life in particular?"

He shakes his head and cuddles further into you. "I just wanna sit here. Forever. With you. I feel like we haven't done this in forever."

"Probably because we haven't."

He removes his head from your chest and flips up your glasses, staring straight into your eyes as you do so as well. "Dave?"

"Yeah?" You respond.

"Will you ever leave me?"

"Of course not."

"Do you love me?"

"Of course."

"Will you always promise me that?"

"Definitely." You rub your cheeks against his and he gives a slight purr.

Sometimes you wish you could go back to the times when everything was so much easier, when you were still a kid.

Why aren't genies real?
