"Ready when you are," the troll out of the group smiles, placing his chin on his hands.
You stand in correct posture, ready to sing. The music slowly comes on, and you become impatient waiting for your part. You continue to stare at the judges. Your cue starts, and you miss it.
"Do you want to restart?"
You nod.
The music restarts and you convince yourself. You're prepared.
"I wish I never saw your face, then I wouldn't need a place to frame you in my mind. Hanging on the wall, my memories and all, but you're not tangible." You can see the audience watching your every move, but it doesn't bother you.
"Stuck on sentimental, the history we never had. Almost accidental, the way you live inside my head." The music gets louder and more notes keep on coming.
"I would kill to be a mile away or feel the breath you'll take, but fate won't let me. Distance, disturbs me. Now I wish we never met. I wish I could forget who you are! Distance disturbs me, 'cause we just can't connect, I found my one regret and it was you. Distance disturbs me!"
Since you only had about a minute that was all you could sing. The judges are on their seats, their eyes wide as they stare. They all quickly snap out of their haze and come together, whispering. You look down, thinking that you weren't going to go to the next stage.
A few sparse claps come from the audience, which quickly follows with more, and more, and it then comes with an avalanche of applause. The hybrid judge stands up, smiling widely and clapping like crazy. The other two judges come up quickly, and the audience comes to a stop after a few minutes.
"Your name was Kara, correct?" the hybrid questions.
"Yes ma'am."
She stands up proudly. "The judges and I have decided to immediately send you to the finals," she sits down, clapping. This earns you another round of applause as your fathers run onto the stage, hugging you closely. You can feel your face heating up and burgundy tears streaming down your face, along with your smaller father having blood red, the others' being clear. This is the first time you have seen either cry.
You walk off onto stage, and get spun around by Dave. "I'm so proud of you baby!"
The tears are wiped away by your (much) taller dad. He messes with your hair, and you flip your bangs out of your eyes. You swear you can feel eyes burning into your head, and you twist around, only to be greeted by a shove.
A female troll walks by you, frowning. She has short hair, and is wearing a nice sweater and formal jeans. Combat boots cover her feet, and you notice the stylish glasses she was wearing. They were a dark purple, and you guess they represent her blood color.
"C'mon, let's go grab something Kara."
You wave your hand at your fathers. "Go ahead, I'll be outside in a minute."
"Okay, whatever you say." Your fathers walk off, and you don't look behind.
You wrap yourself in the curtain and pear around the corner. The highblood stands confidently. Music starts playing, and you hear her sing some obnoxious pop song. You frown, as she sings it perfectly. She actually makes it sound good.
The microphone rings her name. "Aqmariana."
Such a beautiful name for what seems like a bitchy person. Wait, get those foul thoughts out of your mind! You will treat your fellow contestants evenly, whether or not they like you. It's just common lowblood manners.
You run off, meeting you dads outside. You take a taxi and ride to the nearest Burger King, your favorite restaurant.
Tori turns around in the passenger seat. "I'm so proud of you Kara!"
"Mm-hm." You simply respond, looking out the window and looking at the trees flying past.
"Is something wrong?" Tori gives a worried expression.
You shake your head and give a smile. "I'm just fine!" Lie number one.
Tori gives a smile back and twists back around. You don't want anyone finding out that you really knew that you couldn't do it, but hey, life isn't all good all the time. The problem is that you have been feeling a bit under the weather for a while. What's going on? You don't know, and you sure hope it isn't anything bad.
