Chapter 14

All six contestants are in a line. You guys are to the far right, and Mari look extremely excited. You sigh, staring at the ground. This took two weeks. It took you 14 days to do this. The dedication and time will now be completely worthless. It only took a few days to memorize lyrics and moves, and then you spent the remaining few relaxing.

"We are going to make it short. We all have no reason to stall, but I am so proud of all of you. A weeks' determination and dedication and hard work, and it was worth it. While some performances weren't as extravagant and large as others, the talent poured into the act made up for the execution." The human announces.

"Now, the winner." The hybrid comes in. "The winner managed to get over rough patches, and keep a stable relationship with other contestants most of the time."

The troll stares at you and Mari. "The winner is a hybrid, Kara, and her partner, Aqmariana."

You and her high-five and give each other a quick hug, the others clapping.

You run outside, and jump into your fathers' arms. He spins you around, and places you back down. "I'm so proud of you! You did so well too! I had all my bets on you."

You smile and look over at Mari, who was sitting on a bench. Seems like her parents aren't here yet. "Thanks father, I did my best to make you proud."

"Proud?" Your blonde father scoffs. "I'm ecstatic! You did so well!"

You smile. "I told you it would be worth it. You just had to wait for it to air today."

"They showed the footage of you guys winning immediately. Since we had to come and pick you up though, we had to listen from the phone."

You look over at Mari, who puts away her phone, and holds her head in her hands. "Can we take Mari out for ice cream?"

"I'm fine with it."

Your shorter father stares at the other. You walk over to Mari and sit next to her. "Hey."

"Hey." She responds.

"My dads are taking me for ice cream and I was wondering if you would like to come?" you ask.

You can see a flash of purple appear on her face. "W-what?"

"Ice cream. Wanna come?"

Mari sits in silence for a few seconds before nodding. "Yeah. I got to go home after though."

"Your parents aren't going to pick you up?"

She responds with a shake of her head. "They're at work."

"Oh."

You stand up and Mari follows you into the car. You hold the door open for her, and she steps in. You follow her in, and put your seat belt on. Your fathers step in after, do the things you don't know how to do, and you guys drive off.

You all sit in awkward silence. Mari doesn't really know your fathers, and they don't know her. All they know is that you and Mari were originally enemies, and are now morails. You sit, pondering; what was the sudden change all about? You were sure Mari hated you, so you forced yourself to hate her, even though it felt wrong. There is no way you can truly hurt someone.

And soon as you have left, you arrived at the ice cream parlor. Smiling and taking in the signature scent, you whisper. "It's been long... to long."

"Did you say something?" Mari asks and you shake your head.

She looks at the board above the cashier, examining the many flavors. "They even have wildberry?!" Mari whisper-shouts, excited.

You nod. "It's pretty good. I think it and lemon mix well."
