i asked her why she told us

to stick together when she

herself stayed on the sidelines,

to which she simply shrugged

and told me that not everyone

was cut out to have friends.

i wanted to ask her why she didn't

consider us her friends

but i feared i wouldn't like

the answer she would give me;

so i looked over at the girl

i called my girlfriend - the girlfriend

i'd gotten only because cara had

made us a group of five that lasted

longer than expected - and forced

myself to believe that she was

the girl i was fascinated with,

and not the girl who smelled

of smoke and looked like a

washed out punk rocker.
