we were all closer

with one another

than we were with

our own family, so

when something was

wrong, we shared it.

all of us except cara.

she never seemed to

have a care, too content

with setting fire to her

lungs and stepping all over

the people around her to

care. when my sister

came out and expressed

her feelings for cara,

we all feared she'd shatter

cara's careless attitude.

but cara remained unfazed,

simply shrugging and

telling my sister that we

all wanted something

we couldn't have. and then

i proceeded to ask cara

what she wanted and couldn't have.

she looked me straight in the eye and

told me, "happiness always evades me,"

and i think that was the first

time that i realized

cara may have just been

the most scattered

of us all.
