You were human, and a shy one at that. You had been dating the famous mask designer for over a year and were his assistant for almost three since finding his shop one day to get a mask for a party you went to against your will.
You knew Uta was a ghoul right when you saw his kakugan eyes, even after he tried to convince you that they were only tattooed on. You knew the truth, but you didn't leave or scream, only admired his collection and talent as if he were a normal guy. It was what Uta found most interesting about you and offered you a job a week later when you picked up the mask and told him you dabbled in artwork as well.
You worked with the ghoul day and night, then he walked you home or you slept on his couch in the apartment above his shop when the work days stretched on. Uta grew fond of you more and more as time passed and made a move in the studio one night when he kissed you, marking the beginning of your relationship.
A year of dating and you moved in with him above the studio. The two of you understood each other like the sun and the moon even though you were from different worlds. You never saw Uta as less than your equal and he the same. You were never once frightened of him although you knew of the immense power he possessed; his eating habits didn't disgust you either.
You were so timid and startled around other ghouls and humans, but not Uta. He noticed that right away and felt privileged to be the one you were solely comfortable with. He was also extremely protective over you for that reason and would do everything to ensure your safety.
Uta had a dangerous reputation following him, but it made him respected in the ghoul community, especially since he was the main mask designer. That was the only reason it was accepted that you two were together, otherwise you would have been killed, but Uta wouldn't have ever let that happen anyway.
You were skittish because of your anxiety and social awkwardness, making you terrified to be around other living beings, but it got better the longer you worked at HySy because you were helping customers daily. Uta would have never put you in a situation you couldn't handle, but he did believe it was assisting you in dealing with your problems when you interacted with others besides him.
Additionally, you were an artist. You could do relatively any type of landscape and Uta loved to watch you work just as you loved watching him. You had to still be his assistant and handle clients (mostly the humans, sometimes the ghouls) and he trusted you to get the right information for him to make the perfect masks.
You worked like a well-oiled machine and balanced the problems in each other's lives. What you didn't know was just how complicated it could get. The question still lingered of how far the scales would tip before one of you fell over the edge?
