Four Months Later

You barreled through the hallway as you chased after the animal. It ran down the staircase and you charged after it before using your ghoul agility to hop from the top step to the floor like a ninja. You were leaving a trail of water and soap in your path but that was the least of your problems if you didn't catch that dog.

You ran into the studio's main room and spotted the dog, named Amadeus, sitting next to Uta as he sketched a mask and cautiously pet the dog's drenched fur with his fingertips. Amadeus was a golden retriever and was full-grown, meaning giving him a bath was the most difficult task you performed.

"How did it happen this time?" Uta asked, finally turning with a smirk as he noticed your see-through clothing and messy hair.

"He dragged me into the tub!" you complained. "Getting him was your idea, Uta, you should be the one bathing him."

Uta stood after setting down his pencil and glanced between you and the dog.

"He seems perfectly calm. Are you sure you didn't trip?" he inquired, holding back his laugh.

You narrowed your eyes. "I'm fairly certain I didn't trip when he grabbed hold of my pants and tugged me forward," you replied.

"I'm only kidding," Uta assured playfully.

"I married you, not the dog. Taking care of you is enough, now I have even more responsibilities," you said, genuinely annoyed.

Your husband frowned. "Are you serious? You were so excited about getting Amadeus."

You shrugged. "I'm rethinking a lot of things, okay?" you dismissed.

Uta approached you. "Rethinking what?"

"I don't know!" You threw your arms up. "I'm just..."

"What's wrong, darling?" Uta pressed, knowing there was something you weren't telling him.

"Nothing," you responded quickly. "I'm just irritated and cranky."

He nodded. "Okay, go get cleaned up and I'll dry Amadeus. Relax a little."

"Thank you." You sighed and went back up the stairs to the apartment.

You showered and dressed in casual clothing before pacing the apartment. You knew your moods have been off lately and you were snapping at Uta and even the dog for a couple weeks. You knew why, of course, but ever since you found out yesterday, you had been off.

You wanted to surprise Uta of the news since you knew he would be excited, but you had zero idea of how to and you knew how suspicious he was becoming. You had never been that skittish around the man you'd been with intimately for two years and it was evident he thought something more detrimental was going on.

You headed back down to the studio and Amadeus padded up to you, wagging his tail and sticking his tongue out. You sighed, petting his damp fur and ushering him back upstairs to the apartment so he didn't knock over any of the displays.

You found Uta dealing with a human costumer since you had been occupied and handing over a mask to them. After they left, you flipped the sign to signal the end of the work day and strolled over to Uta's desk. You hopped up to sit on some important papers, but you decided it was now or when he figured it out himself.

"I'm sorry," you apologized.

Uta looked up from his sketchbook and swiveled his chair over enough to sit between your legs.

"What for, my love?" he questioned, concerned.

You chewed your bottom lip. "I know I've been a handful these past few weeks and it's been getting to you."

He shook his head. "No, not at all. I just want you to tell me what's wrong instead of bottling up whatever this is," he said earnestly.

You took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant."

Uta's kakugan widened and his mouth broke out into a wide grin. You giggled as he suddenly jumped up from his seat and began pacing the floor just as you had been doing.

"Babe," you called after he had been in a trance for almost two minutes, "what are you thinking?"

Uta beamed. "Names, designing masks, baby masks, so many things," he rambled, striding to you and taking you in his arms.

You held him and you were both bouncing with the joy of enentually becoming parents because you each secretly hoped for that to happen because you wanted to consummate your relationship by going the next step over time. Having a child, or many, was definitely the way to do it.

"Amadeus is going to be a big brother," you joked, leaning back to match Uta's gaze as you continued pressing your bodies together.

"Should we even keep him? He could pose harm to the baby."

"Of course we're keeping him!" you snapped protectively. "I love that dog."

Uta smiled smugly. "Just checking."

You laugh and you and Uta discussed arrangements, interior design for the nursery, names, masks, and everything else. It was utterly surreal and wonderful to be taking that type of rise together after overcoming so much as just the pair of you.

The love you had for each other was like seeing a shooting star in the sky--rare, beautiful, and full of wishes and wants. You wished for happiness and wanted to spend every moment in Uta's presence for as long as you breathed the same air.

Love with him was special. You weren't each other's first of anything, but you would definitely be each other's last of it all. You took a risk in loving Uta; he was a ghoul and you were a human. He could have taken your life at every turn but you showed the most courage in staying despite the dangers. Uta could never thank you enough for trusting and having faith in him.

Alas, the end had arrived and you and Uta would embark on an everlasting life journey together with new goals and ambitions in mind for the future. It was an amazing thing that you once lived without each other because you couldn't remember a time such as that, but the good thing was, you wouldn't have to ever again because your love was infinite and forever for the fact that you didn't tolerate each other, but instead coexisted.

A/N: Special thanks to rainbowduff for helping me out on this fanfic. You're amazing.
