You and Uta were at Anteiku with Yoshimura and Renji to discuss the plan as the others waited downstairs in the cafe. It was imperative that each angle be worked out before setting off, especially of your safety and position to Uta.
During the last two days, you've learned defense skills and how to use guns and knives. As expected, you picked up fairly quickly but were still amateur at best. You had a knife strapped to one leg and gun on the other to defend yourself if anything were to go awry.
The four of you headed downstairs with you in the rear. Once making it to the main floor, everyone stood up and mentally prepared themselves for the fight approaching.
"Uta? You're coming along?" Touka asked, both surprised and glad.
"Of course; I can't leave a valuable customer to such a fate," he replied.
"I'm going too," you revealed, taking everyone by shock. "I won't leave a friend behind."
The lot gave acknowledgments of understanding and headed out to the vans where their red cloaks were. The ghouls put one on, including you, and started going off in groups toward the location. You rode on Uta's back and saw the entirety of the CCG on the way.
Uta landed in the wooded area where the ghouls met up and devised the rest of the plan like where everyone would be stationed and with who. Uta turned to you after getting his position and tugged you aside.
"Stay safe," he said.
"You first," you replied, standing on your toes and kissing him hard on the lips.
You watched him leave with Tsukiyama and a couple others as you stayed with Hinami, Kaya, and Yoshimura. You got handed a pair of binoculars by Kaya, but you weren't sure you wanted to witness it closer than you already were at that point.
The battle began with the CCG firing rounds at Aogiri members with the rebellious crew sneaking in through the chaos to rescue Kaneki. You used the binoculars to keep the other three updated and Kaya used her ghoul hearing.
Yoshimura took off some time in the commotion to distract the investigators while the havoc continued. You tried searching for Uta, but there was no spotting him through the immense destruction, yet you hoped he was doing okay.
Time passed and you, Hinami, and Kaya moved to a hill higher on the property for a better vantage point. You spotted Touka fighting with her brother, then Kaneki rescuing her and Nishiki. You told that to Kaya and Hinami.
The structure of the complex randomly started blowing up on different sides minutes later and Nishiki showed up with Touka on his back. The five of you went to a safer spot away from the debris, but none of that stopped your worry for Uta as you didn't know if he got out in time.
Nishiki set Touka against a tree and all of you filtered out the yelling and screams in the distance. The rest of the team was nowhere and you grew concerned for each ghoul. Nishiki relayed what went down that he knew of and it only managed to stress you out more.
One by one, the team showed up starting with Yoshimura, then Tsukiyama. You were disappointed that the eccentric masochist got back before your boyfriend and it made you start to pace the dirt path.
"Where's Uta and Renji?" you questioned.
"Oh, they're making sure Kaneki is okay with Aogiri and what his intentions are," Tsukiyama answered, staggering the whole area.
"Kaneki what?" Nishiki blurted.
"He's with Aogiri and won't be coming back," a new voice, Renji who landed in the outer circle clarified.
"Too bad. He was fun," Uta commented as he also landed in the outer circle.
You fought a smile and ran over to embrace Uta with him accepting lovingly. The display showed the ghouls the type of bond the two of you truly had by showing such affection and relief for each other so openly.
"There's nothing we can do," Touka said finally, clutching her arm. "We have to move on and let Kaneki do his thing."
"I agree," Yoshimura stated. "This was a war we fought, but no one wins in war, people only survive. I'm proud of all of you."
With that, the gang disbanded and trekked back to the city for much needed rest--minds either on Kaneki or what they had done. You and Uta decided to stick around and walk the path back to the city in order to talk privately in a tranquil setting with lit up trees lighting the way.
"There was a ghoul who regenerated with sufficient speed. The three of us couldn't take him out," Uta said.
"As long as you're here, I don't care who you can't take out," you teased with semi-seriousness.
"I didn't even take out my kagune," he defended.
You continued strolling until hitting a road going toward the city and walking down the middle of it.
"Do you think Kaneki will be all right?" you asked.
"Yeah, he's a lot stronger now. Whatever his plan is, he has it under control," Uta responded.
You nodded and the rest of the walk was light with conversation. You got back to the apartment just brushing midnight and ran a warm bath for the two of you, then got into the steaming water with you between Uta's legs and your back to his chest.
You enjoyed the temperature and that you had Uta with you because you were unsure of what would've happened had he not returned safe and sound. You would have probably gone mad or drowned in your own tears. That was how much it would have hurt to know the biggest piece of you perished.
"What do you think of marriage?" you questioned out of nowhere, but it had been on your mind for a while.
Uta shrugged. "Do you want to get married someday?"
You laid the back of your head on his chest and looked up at him. "I wouldn't mind having your last name."
"Me neither," Uta murmured.
