Your bodies rocked together in rhythm as sweat coated your skin. Uta ran his tongue along your neck as you continued to anchor yourself to him and finish what had started earlier in the morning than it was. After the fun, you showered together and got ready for the day.
"I wonder what you look like with your natural hair color now," you commented as you walked with Uta down to the studio.
"It was always too light for my taste. I dyed it when I got out of the fourth ward and moved my business here," he replied.
You made it in the studio and left Uta to grab the mail, which included a small box. You set it on his desk and ripped it open, showing the contents of a special metal mask with a crack on the forehead inside. A note was with it and you read it aloud, the paper saying it needed to be repaired and shipped back to the eleventh ward.
"Looks like you have a welding day ahead," you said, setting the mask on Uta's desk.
"How did she manage to crack this? It's metal blended with steel," he muttered, irritated that one of his pieces was damaged.
"You know the eleventh ward has a lot of fights happening. She was probably nailed in the head with a pole during one," you guessed.
"Will you be okay doing everything else while I work on this today?"
"Yeah," you confirmed, rubbing a hand across his shoulder. "Just get this done so I don't spend another night alone."
Uta nodded and glanced at you. You always became lost in his ghoul eyes and wondered once more why he kept his kakugan activated all the time. When you asked him before, he was reluctant to answer and brushed you off for it.
"Uta," you said, earning his attention once more. "Why do you always have your kakugan on? I've never so much as seen them flash to human eyes for the years I've known you."
Uta sighed, knowing he should tell you the truth. It wasn't that he was ashamed, only that it was a disadvantage for a ghoul to have if it got out.
"I'm blind."
"What?" you whispered immediately as if you couldn't believe your ears.
"I have been since birth, but I can see normally with my kakugan. Human eyes are dull and relatively useless to a ghoul anyway. The only thing they're good for it blending in," he responded. "But I see perfectly with ghouls eyes, so don't worry about it."
"I-I'm sorry for prying," you apologized, feeling absolutely guilty.
Uta stood and cupped your face in his hand. "It's all right, my love. You have every right to know the details I wish to hide because you own my heart," he said, pecking your lips.
"Okay," you mumbled.
"Good girl," Uta responded, letting his hands drop to gather the mask and a couple supplies.
He went to the workshop and you got your stuff you would need from the apartment before heading out to do what you neeeded to for the day, including shopping for human groceries and new paint brushes and pencils.
You did just that, which took almost an hour on its own and you planned on going to Anteiku. You thought it strange that there weren't many people around in the broad daylight, but you shrugged it off since you were getting coffees to go anyway, then you would be home and not needing to worry about it.
You halted when you turned the corner and saw the busted window of Anteiku in the distance accompanied by yelling that sounded like a massive fight between ghouls. Your heart rate increased drastically and you had the urge to get out of there as fast as possible, so you did. You turned and ran back in the direction of HySy, not caring that you dropped the bags on the way.
Lately, there were Dove attacks and ghoul raids. If something was happening at Anteiku, then there could be at HySy. You mainly were scared for your own life because it seemed everyone knew ghouls would be scouring the ward and stayed out of their way.
When you were a number of blocks away from the HySy, you felt someone grab your throat and slam you up against the brick wall of a building. You coughed and struggled against them, but had the wind knocked out of you, then you stopped when you noticed it was not one but three people, ghouls, wearing masks you knew didn't come from Uta's shop.
"Where's No Face?" one sneered.
Uta.
"Who?" You feigned ignorance and felt yourself begin to tear up from the pressure on your neck and petrification.
"We saw you with him. Now, where is he hiding? We just want to talk to him," the other ghoul growled.
Trying to figure out a way to get out of the life or death situation, you made your hand in to a fist and dug your fingernail into your skin as hard as you could until you drew blood, praying that Uta would smell it.
"You think that's going to distract us?" the third said with a laugh.
You were thrown to the ground and a powerful hit to the mouth caused you to cry out in pain. There was blood gushing from your your lip and dripping down your chin onto the concrete. You remained silent despite their questioning because you would never let them get to Uta no matter what they wanted. You had a bad feeling that their intentions weren't the best and you always went with your gut instinct.
You were surrounded by the ghouls and they yelled at you to answer them over and over. You laid there, trying to recover from the blow and stop the bleeding from the wound that ached and burned. You momentarily wondered what they would do next and what your gothic knight would do once he found them.
