Chapter 2 - Little Vacation
SEAN HUNT
"Fuck, Syd. Tone it down."
"It's your fault. You shouldn't startle people like that." She yelled back, a hand on her chest as she caught her breath, another pushing the hair out of her face.
"What are you doing here?"
"Give me a minute." She snapped.
Sean's lips quirked up in amusement. The woman was so into her thoughts that she didn't even see him coming.
When Sean gathered that she wouldnt come out of her reverie for a long while, he stood in the shadows admiring her. Like he always did.
She's your brother's fiancé. A voice whispered and shit he turned his back to her for a second.
Sean had liked the innocent cute kid. At first he thought she was too uptight. She never attended the parties, was never present for any celebrations or events or just about anything.
And one day he had stumbled into his garden and saw her on her knees just breathing everything in and Sean had been hooked.
He had been seventeen at the time. Sean didn't know how to act. He had a line of girls running behind him and they were all in for fame when he was in high school.
Sydney wasn't one of them. She loved to be on her own. She loved her plants and she specially loved her books. She had a knack to read James Bond books. She loved them.
Sean knew every single thing about her, until she went away for college. According to the Greys, she went for interior designing. Sean never understood why. She wasn't a type of person to love designing.
Once she was back, Sean saw her at a party. His mother had been angry with him for bringing one of his ex as a date. Well, he couldn't tell her that he only brought her because of her offer.
Monisha was his go-to girl for sex. She was an Indian girl that had been working for a series that created a buzz worldwide.
Monisha knew what Sean wanted and she was okay with it. She was a lovely girl. Even though his mother, Cassandra, had been angry at Sean, she loved Monisha. And after learning that the woman's parents had kicked her out for pursuing her career in Hollywood, Cassandra Hunt, like the mother she was, took her under her wing.
He was sitting with his brothers as they laughed at one of the stories Monisha was telling when Sydney had walked in. And Sean didn't like it, at all. He loved the kid whose hair were always messy, who pushed her spectacles up her nose every fifteen minutes, who recited the scientific names of plants as if she was reciting tables. Sydney had walked - no swayed - as she entered. She had changed into one of those women that wanted Sean's attention.
When Sean had been on the gallery for a breath of fresh air he had seen Syd in Logan's arms as she cried.
"I promise you." Were the only three words he had caught. At that time he didn't know what? The next morning his father had been talking about marrying Logan to Syd. Sean had been furious but he nodded as he never talked back to his father.
Sean had drowned his sorrows in Logan's favourite scotch and in Monisha.
"I worry for you, Sean." She had said.
She was the only girl that stayed in the night. Monisha needed the intimacy and Sean did too because they both knew how lonely it could get.
"There's nothing to worry about." He said as he threw his arm around her waist. Monisha would snuggle in and press her cheeks to his chest. They both knew that they imagined another in each other's arms. Someone they could never get.
Sean knew that George and Nolan were talking about marrying Logan and Syd, thus merging their companies.
Sean had wanted away because of that. So he had taken a vacation to Italy. Who knew that the woman he ran away from and wanted too much at the same time was right in the same hotel as him.
He walked in when he thought she was leaving and she had shrieked and yelled at him.
"Why are you here?"
I couldn't stand seeing you marry my brother
"Just a little vacation." He shrugged.
"Nice."
She said as she pulled herself out. Sean's jaw dropped. The woman was like a wet dream. She was stunningly beautiful and very much sexy as she walked over to him.
"Cat got your tongue?"
"What?"
"I asked if Logan sent you here?"
"Why would he?" Sean frowned. Why every fucking time does Logan have to come in between them.
"Okay. Calm down. Gee I just asked."
"Where are you staying?"
She rattled of her number.
"I'm just one door down." He replied.
"Okay."
An awkward silence fell. They never talked to each other. Sean wanted to say something but he saw the wariness in her eyes. She looked away from him and Sean didn't know why but placed a hand on her bare shoulder.
"Are you alright?"
The vulnerability in her eyes sucker punched him as she looked at him and said.
"Honestly? It couldn't get any worse."
