Chapter 21 - All Alone
SEAN HUNT
********
Sean was pretty pissed at the fact that Syd hadn't returned for over a week now. As far as he knew, a week didn't comprise of two days. She'd said she'd be back by two days and it was currently seventh day since she'd left. He was going out of his mind.
He'd called every single person he knew, even Dan who seemed to be annoyed that Sean called him in the middle of the night.
Not only Sean was annoyed, he was going crazy since Monisha's last call. She was drunk as fuck and Sean couldn't understand one single word she was saying.
And then he gets a call in the morning that she was hospitalized because of overdose.
He had been sitting beside her with his phone in hand willing Syd to just call him or text him. Just about anything would be good.
Monisha had been out for hours. His parents had dropped by along with his brothers. Sean wasn't lying when he told Monisha had a family. All the hunt's loved her. Loved and supported her for what she was doing.
As far as what Monisha had told and what he'd seen when he'd went over to get her back from her parents, Monisha was rich. Her family was rich and orthodox. She came from a small village, where her family was respected and considered to be the most important in the village.
According to her father, Monisha shouldn't be working at all. Hell, she wasn't supposed to even have a degree. She was supposed to follow her mother's footsteps and stay at home as she cooked and married the man her father chose for her. What kind of family did that to a girl?
He had learned a bit of Hindi from Monisha and the things he had heard her father say to her, Sean wouldn't even dare say it to any woman let alone his child. He had also seen the guy she was suppose to marry. The man was twenty years elder to her. And by the leer on his face, Sean knew Mon wouldn't survive it.
That night he had snuck in and they had run away from there.
A movement on the bed caught his attention. He saw her open her eyes and saw the instant panic when she saw the unfamiliar surrounding.
"Hey.Hey" he said softly and cupped her face. " It's alright. I'm here."
"Sean." she croaked.
"Yeah." he smiled ."Hold on."
He pressed the button to call for the doctor and helped her up. Grabbing the glass from a table beside him, he poured the water from the bottle he'd brought on his way and helped her sip a little.
The doctor came in, Dave trailing behind him. At Dave's nod, Sean walked out of the room and headed towards the cafeteria for a quick cup of coffee.
He sat on one of the tables holding a cup of his coffee as he glared at his phone that he had placed on the table.
"Glaring at it, doesn't work. You've actually got to take it in hand press some numbers that are displayed on the screen. That's how it works."
Sean looked up to see a woman in a white coat, a tee that almost reached her knees and black grey sweatpants walk towards him. Her cat-eye shaped glasses perched on her nose as she walked over, more like dragged her ass towards his bench, holding a cup of coffee.
"Do I know you?"
"Nah but I know you."
"Of course you do." he rolled his eyes. The whole family's face had been plastered in the newspaper more times than he'd like. Shit now he'll have to take care of Mon's overdose news getting out.
"Are you all rich idiots, so obnoxious? A Know-it-all morons?"
Sean scowled at her words. "Listen here you missy , -"
"Stop harassing my brother, Kari." Dave said in a tired voice as he slid beside him.
"How's she?" he asked.
"She'll be fine. This wasn't her first time, I'm guessing." The woman named Kari answered
"No it wasn't. But she had been sober for over a year now."
"It would be better if she stays here for the next 24 hours. You can come get her tomorrow by evening say, 1700."
"Why is she answering?"
"Because I'm her doctor and the person in the room checking on her is my intern, not his." She pressed a hand to her head. "I'll go see what Greg has to say about her, I'll check on her once." She got up and dragged her feet to the door but then changed her mind and turned to him.
"You know Sean." she said his name with scorn, "Ms Singh does have a family here, I guess from the amount of people that had been visiting. Especially your mother. What about the woman who's out there alone without a family. If you ask me, I don't understand why she'd even be with you after everything you've made her go through."
With that said, she walked out of the room without another glance towards him.
"What is she talking about?"
"You don't know?"he stated
"No I don't"
"She's been holed up with Zach. Said she needs some time away after everything you lied about." Sean knew without a clue that this was about Syd
"Lied about what?"
"I don't know. But Kari knows. So does Kay, Tess and Lexi. These woman are sticking up to her. They were worried sick so Kari called just two hours ago. Then she spread the word to the other three. If I were you I'd go in hiding. And stay away from Lexi. She packs a lot of strength in that lithe body."
Dave caressed his jaw slightly as if remembering something.
"You're dead Sean."
