Chapter 20 - Flee
SYDNEY GREY
Sydney couldn't stop smiling. She kept playing the last night in her mind throughout her flight to LA and on her way to the hotel. As annoying as it was to Alyssa, her manager seemed to be a tad bit happy for her. Syd's life had been a complete roller coaster since her secret had been out.
According to Alyssa, a nurse had sold that information for a little bit of fame and money. She had seen to it that selling the information had cost the nurse big time. She was now a jobless person with only the money and fame to suffice.
Though Syd thought it was quite harsh, she agreed that they did have to make a statement so that it didn't repeat again. The gossip had settled enough that Syd didn't have to be judged for what had happened. She hoped that the news about anything else hadn't been out for only Lexi and Alyssa knew what happened to the baby.
Alyssa had gonna through enough shit to leave Sydney and find another but she had stuck and looked after everything. Apart from Lexi and Logan she did feel grateful to have Alyssa with her.
Sydney opened her suitcase and grabbed a pair of dull wash jeans. She paired it with a tube top with a grey shrug over it and her black Saint Laurent sneakers
The last time she had been there was for one of the gigs she had landed during the fashion week. She put on her Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses and gazed out the window of her rental car as Alyssa drove them to the shoot.
Sydney was back to her suite around 7. Though she was exhausted from the photo shoot, she couldn't stop herself from taking a swim in the hotels lovely pool.
Changing into her bikini as fast as she could she doned a sundress and skipped towards the elevator.
Just before it was about to close a loud voice echoes along the hallways, "Stop, stop, stop."
Syd stuck her hand before the doors could close and the doors opened.
A woman ran down the hallway towards the elevator. A woman who was all too familiar. A woman she was jealous of since forever.
"Thanks." she said as she bent in half resting her hands on her hips catching her breath. The woman wore a crop top and had a sarong wrapped around her waist.
"No problem. " she said in a monotone.
Sydney didn't exactly liked the stuation she eas in. Here she was twenty floors above the ground in a steel cart with Sean's beloved ex.
It wasn't that Syd hated Monisha. She just didn't like her for who she was. She was just too perfect. She was exotic, her dark brown hair cascading down her shoulders, she must be a nice person considering that Cassandra took her under her wing.
Monisha was always invited for the monthly family reunions. Sydney avoided her as much as she could. Which meant always.
"Sydney." Monisha gasped and Sydney had no other choice but to paste a fake smile on her face and look at the woman beside her.
"Hi, Monisha."
"This is awkward."she voiced.
Sydney couldn't help it. The way she voiced it Had Sydney smiling a real smile.
"That's true."
They didn't speak for the rest of their way down.
Sydney thought that once the elevator reached the ground floor, they'd part ways but then she gave Monisha a once over and she knew that woman was on her way to the pool.
Sydney wanted to run back to her suite and stay holed up there to avoid the awkwardness but then she steeled herself. She couldn't cower everytime she saw Monisha. So Syd stepped out of the elevator wih the woman and all the way to the pool.
Both of them acknowledged each other and dressed down to their swimwear. Dutifully they did laps and did their best to avoid talking any more.
Once Sydney felt that she'd had enough she pulled herself out and wipping down the water with a towel she had carried down in her tote she lounged on one of the chairs.
"Hey." she heard Monisha call after a while and Sydney opened her eyes to see her lounging on the chair right beside hers.
"I know it's weird for us to talk considering I used date the man who loved you."
"How did you know he loved me?"
"well." she hesitated, "Not one of the moments I would share with anybody. Umm, but when a guy whispers another woman's name in your ear while he is fucking you, you should know that the guy sure as hell doesn't love you."
The fact that they slept together, coming out of Monisha's mouth gave her mental images she didn't want to imagine.
"I'm so sorry." she said sheepishly when she saw Syd grimace, "I'm not good with this, you know"she justified
Syd felt bad for her and she gave her a small smile. "I appreciate your honesty though."
They sat there in silence which wasn't as awkward as she would've thought it would be.
"Sean and me, we did fool around but it was never serious. I need Sean for a reason Sydney. I would love to tell my story but.. " she sighed " It's complicated.
Sydney didn't utter one word she let Monisha speak.
" I heard about you, Did a little math of my own and knew that it probably would've been Sean's. I'm so sorry that he left that day but I needed him Syd. I wouldn't have-"
Sydney cut her mid-sentence, "You what?"
"My family locked me up. I needed him at that time. He asked if he could bring you too but i told him no. I wasn't at my best Syd. I wouldn't have wanted anybody to see me that way but Sean was my only choice. I've no family to run to or to ask for help. I.. I'm really sorry for everything.
Sean had lied. He told her that he left because of her, who knew he would lie to go save his ex. Syd wasn't angry at Monisha. In fact she understood her need to approach the only person whom she knew.
Nothing made sense. Everything was just getting tangled. She couldn't sort her thoughts. She felt as if somebody was trying to choke her. She needed space.
A hell of a lot of space. So she did the only thing she knew.
She fled.
