Chapter 13 - Walk Away

SEAN HUNT

Sydney sat on  the arm of the leather sofa glaring daggers at Sean. If looks could kill he'd be six feet under the ground by now.

"C'mon Sydney."

"No." She had been sitting on the arm of the leather couch for the past three hours.

Sean had tried to talk to her but she refused to talk. He was getting pretty tired of consoling her.

It was useless to try a get an answer out of her.

His stomach growled loudly and he had no other choice but to dial his favourite pizza place and order two large pizzas. He remembered to not mention mushrooms even though he loved them.

He knew she was allergic to mushroom since he was ten. At that time she didn't know she was allergic to it too.

His mom had cooked a nice chicken and mushroom penne pasta. Syd had  taken one bite and she fell down her chair as she coughed and wheezed as her tongue had swollen and her throat started to close up.

It was a near death experience and Sean never wanted to see her like that ever again.

"You want beer?"

Sydney nodded as she slid down the arm of the  sofa and settled on it with her legs tucked underneath.

She looked so cute with her hair tied in two ponytail, her face void of makeup, a huge white t-shirt with a cute black cat that she pulled up every time it fell over her shoulder and a pair of iron man lounge pants.

"What?"

Sean just shook his head "Nothing."

They sat in silence as Syd settled on a channel.

The pizzas came in half an hour. And they happily munched on them

"Why did you leave?" She asked out of now here.

"You wanna do this now?"

Sydney just started at him. Confusion settled in her eyes. She close her eyes for a moment and when she opened em again, he saw resignation in her eyes.

"Sydney..."

She shook her head

"Never mind. It's not like I asked for a forever from you. You didn't stay and I shouldn't have expected you to. I guess for once it felt good to have hopes."

With that said, she stood up from the sofa and started down the hallway.

Sean practically ran to her.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

" Nothing." She proceeded towards her room but he grasped her elbow.

"Do we have to argue every single time?"

She sighed and replied a small no.

"Guess we can have a small conversation?"

She nodded.

They both walked back to the sofa. As Sean started to think about the time they spent together almost three years ago, he remembered that all the time they'd spent together, they never talked about each other.

They went out to all those touristy place and then headed to England. They hadn't stepped out o the house but neither had they talked much about their past. Sean didn't want to leave her alone for even one second.  Sean had felt that if he ever let her be for even a second, she'd run away from him as far as she could. The sex had been mind blowing every single time. Sean knew everything about her before she had transformed herself. And now, he wanted to know everything about her.

"Where'd you go to college?" Sean asked.

"Where did that come from?" She asked as she swallowed.

"Just answer."

She shifted in her seat. She munched on another bite of the pepperoni pizza.

Sean picked up his beer bottle an gulped

"University of California." Syd muttered.

Beer shot from his nose as he heard her.

"You went to California. All the way to California?"

Sydney nodded.

"Why?"

"Because I wanted to escape. I wanted to fit in, you know. I wanted to be someplace other than here where I have to think twice about my next move. Where I have to worry more about what others would think of me. Where I have to go through my parents criticism every second of the day."

Sean didn't say anything to that he understood what she meant.

"What did you major in?"

"Botany."

"Your major is botany?"

"I thought you knew that." She frowned.

"How would I know that?"

"Logan helped me set up everything."

Sean couldn't help but say, "Why can't just one small conversation happen without the use of his name?"

"What?"

"Nothing. I'm tired. I'm going to bed."

Sean left his food right there, half eaten and walked over to his room.

"What did I do?"

"Nothing." He replied and continued to walk over to his room.

"Great. Just walk away. Because that's what you're best in, aren't ya? Walk away. Leave me to figure out what I said wrong because it's always me who's at fault, isn't it Sean?" That stopped him.

"Shut it Syd."

"Why? 'Cause I'm right? Shut up because I'm right. Shut up because you can't take the truth. This is what you do best Sean. You walk away. You walked away from Logan when he needed you back then."

Sean turned to face her. He felt the walls closing in on him. He felt like somebody was trying to strangle him

"Shocked that I know?"

"How the fuck-"

"Do I know that? She finished. "I know that because you walked away. You walked away an you didn't give Logan a chance. What happened to Dan-" she shook her head. "Daniel was your brother and Logan's too. He needed you. Both of them needed you Sean."

"Please don't." He croaked

"When you left Logan and I, we became close. We were close since the beginning but that moment seemed to strengthen our bond. That's why we are close. And then things started to go bad for me and Logan helped me through that.

"You wonder why I keep mentioning Logan? You wonder why Logan approaches me first than you? It's because we don't trust you to be there for us. You never were, never have and never will be there for us. Because you've got yourself trapped in your own hell. "

Sydney walked past him and into the guest bedroom she had occupied.

"I gave you chance three years ago Sean. For a moment I believed you would be there for me." She said and Sean fell to his knees.

"Thank you for proving me wrong."

With that she closed the door to her room and opened the door behind which he had closed all his emotions.
