The next day at school was incredibly boring. Every class was a bore and the day dragged on. It was finally 9th period when things actually got interesting.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it interesting I guess. More of horrifying.

It was English, and I was sitting in the back as usual. Tanner was in this class with me as well as our friend Isabella.

It was only two minutes into class when there was a knock on the door. Our teacher, Mrs. Smith, looked away from us to the door, "Come in dear," she said.

The door opened and in walked the as*hole. I felt Tanner tense up beside me. I looked over at him, "Are you okay?" I asked.

He nodded, "Never better."

I felt sarcasm in his voice and then looked back to the front.

"Hi, my name is Landyn," he said. "Landyn Daniels, sorry," he added.

The teacher smiled, "Hi Landyn, you may call me Mrs. Smith. Go ahead and take a seat. We are going to be starting a new project today so we'll have to get ya caught up."

He nodded and then proceeded to look for a seat, glancing only for a split second at me and then taking a seat in the middle of the room some where. That's weird. He barely even batted an eye at me but yesterday he couldn't keep his comments to himself.

As the class went on, Mrs. Smith had been rambling about Romeo and Juliet for about 30 minutes now.

"Okay class, since you're so educated on the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet now, you will be doing a project," she started, getting out packets of paper and passing them out. "You will be assigned a partner and you will have to do a research paper ranging from 3-5 pages, providing facts and information about Shakespeare's work. You will then rehearse the play yourselves and spice it up however you want. I rented out the auditorium a few months from now so we'll have a stage where you can do your plays. Don't worry, this is just a side project you will be working on with a partner, you have plenty of time," she finished and already the entire class was far away from thrilled.

"Can we just pick our partners?" someone asked.

She shook her head, "No, no, I'm assigning them this time so you will have the chance to interact with other individuals and get out of your comfort zone," she said.

Some of the students groaned.

Mrs. Smith chuckled, "Don't sound too excited kids." She walked over to her computer and started typing, "Let me just make a chart quick to have a record of your partners."

After a few minutes, she finally looked up, "Okay, Isabella and Tanner."

I looked over at them and groaned, "Not fair."

Tanner pouted, "Maybe you and your partner can come work with me and Bella," he said trying to comfort me.

"Josh and Lily," Mrs. Smith continued.

As she talked I got more and more angry that me and Tanner weren't partners. It would have been perfect if we were! We could have spent even more time together and near the end I could have finally admitted my feelings to him. But now I'm going to have even less time with him because I'm going to be spending my days with someone I didn't even know, or like for that matter.

"Landyn and Remi," I heard.

I blinked. "What."

"Remi, will you please help Landyn catch up before you start the project and let him know everything he needs to know please?" Mrs. Smith asked politely.

My heart sank. This cannot be happening.

"But I'm really not good at catching people up, you probably would be better assigning him with someone else," I started to ramble but she cut me off.

"I'm sure you'll manage," she smiled, and then looked at Landyn. "Any questions?"

He shook his head and didn't say a word.

I looked over at Tanner panicking, "Why me? Out of everyone I get the biggest douche as a partner!"

He looked angry about it as well, "Ask her privately at the end of class for a new one," he said. "This isn't right."

I nodded and waited till the bell rang.

After everyone was out of the room, I walked up to her desk, "Mrs. Smith I'm sorry for being a bother but I really cannot be partners with Landyn," I explained.

She looked up at me through her glasses, "Why not?" she asked. "The boy just moved here Remi, you could try and be a little nicer."

"I am!" I exclaimed, "Believe me, I wouldn't mind if it was anyone else but I just really don't know the guy. I'm getting some weird vibes Mrs. Smith," I said, hoping she'd switch me.

She leaned back, "Remi Im going to tell you one of my favorite lines, and you of all people should know this by now. Don't judge a book by its cover," she stated, staring me in the eyes intently.

I just looked at her for a few seconds hoping she'd say something else or change her mind.

After standing there in silence I finally spoke, "Mrs. Smith don't make me do this," I groaned.

"Remi I'm not used to you complaining about things that we do in class so I'm going to look passed it, but you have no idea what Landyn is like. You can't just go off of some weird vibes. Get to know him, be kind and he'll be kind in return, and if you have any problems with him after the first week then you can by all means switch partners," she said. "I chose you because you're one of my best students and I thought you could handle helping a new student cope with everything he missed and still do the project. Am I wrong?"

I sighed and shook my head, "No. I'll do it. But if something happens after a week I'm coming straight to you," I stated firmly.

"Thank you," she said. "Hopefully that won't be the case."

"Yeah hopefully," I muttered, walking out of the room.

I really could not believe that this douche bag was my partner. God was not on my side at all today, or lately for that matter. Today was only Tuesday, and Bella's party was this weekend, so I couldn't be spending my time with Landyn on the project. I already had plans and I wasn't changing them. Come the next Tuesday though, I was changing partners. I could just make up some excuse as to why, I'm sure Landyn wouldn't care. He'd probably go along with it. We don't even know each other, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

As I tried convincing myself that things would eventually play out in my favor, I couldn't help the sinking feeling in my stomach.
