Sam's POV:
I walked back downstairs and saw Blake and Jason sitting on the couch. I wedged between them and layed my head on Blake's shoulder. "I'm sorry guys."
Blake wrapped his arms around me and pulled me against him. I snuggled up close to him and smiled.
"We are too Sam. We were just trying to protect ya darlin'," Blake told me.
I nodded. "I know Uncle Blake."
"But don't count on it stoppin' anytime soon," Jason added.
I laughed. "Wasn't planin' on it."
*Later*
I was out by the catfish pond texting Gunner when he asked if I still wanted to go to dinner with him at seven. I turned and ran into the house.
"Daddy?" I called.
"In the dinin' room!"
I walked in and saw Luke, Blake, Jason, and Tim all playing cards around the table.
"Hi Uncle Tim!" I greeted, walking over and giving him a kiss on the cheek. "I didn't see ya pull up."
Tim wrapped an arm around me and gave me a hug. "Hey darlin'! I just got here a few minutes ago.
"So what's up kiddo?" Luke asked, staring down at his cards.
I shifted my weight from foot to foot. "Well, um, I was wonderin' if I could go out to dinner with Gunner tonight."
Luke and my uncles all froze.
"Wait, who's Gunner?" Tim demanded, slamming his cards down on the table.
I slapped my hand to my forehead. "Uncle Tim, please don't hurt him!"
Tim crossed his arms. "That didn't answer my question."
Luke told him what happened at the boot store.
Tim nodded in approval at Luke's and my uncles actions. "So the boy still wants to go out with ya?"
I nodded.
Tim pointed a finger at Luke and my other uncles. "Y'all didn't do a good enough job of scaring that boy away from my niece."
"No Uncle Tim! Please don't hurt him! I really like this boy!" I begged grabbing his arm.
Tim cocked an eyebrow at me. "Ya ain't helpin' yer case girl."
I poked out my bottom lip and gave him my best puppy dog eyes.
Tim sighed. "Fine. I won't hurt or scare him."
I smiled and gave him a kiss on the cheek before turning to Luke. "So can I go out to dinner with Gunner tonight? Please Daddy! Please!"
Luke leaned back in his chair and rubbed his chin. "I don't know..."
I pinned him with my puppy dog eyes.
Luke's POV:
Dang it! Why does she have to make that face? She knows I can't say no to her when she does that.
I sighed. "Fine. Lover Boy can come over."
Sam ran over and hugged me around my neck. "Thank you Daddy! Thank you!"
I kissed the side of her head. "You're welcome sweetheart, but you tell that boy that he'd better keep his hands to himself or I'm gonna break 'em!"
She groaned. "Daddy! Please be nice! I really like him!"
Sam got me and my friends to agree not to hurt or scare Gunner. Then she ran upstairs to get ready.
"Ya know what this situation reminds me of?" Blake asked.
We shook our heads.
"Come on in boy, sit on down and tell me 'bout yourself ," Blake sang.
"So ya like my daughter, do ya now?" I joined in.
"Yeah, we think she's somethin' else," Tim added.
I sat down my cards. "She's her daddy's girl and her mama's world."
"She deserves respect. That's what she'll get, ain't it son?" Jason pipped up.
"Now y'all run along and have some fun," Blake continued.
I smiled. "I'll see ya when ya get back. Bet I'll be up all night."
"Still cleanin' this gun," we all sang.
We continued singing 'Cleaning This Gun' by Rodney Atkins as we waited for seven o'clock to roll around.
*7:00pm*
Sam's POV:
I was checking my hair one last time when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" I yelled, sprinting to the door before Luke could answer it.
I opened the door and saw Gunner standing there in a red flannel shirt that was tucked into his jeans, and boots. He hand a bouquet of red roses in his hands.
"Hey Gunner!" I greeted, hugging him.
"Hey darlin'! You look gorgeous," he told me.
I was in a yellow sun dress, the cross necklace that Luke gave me, white sandals, and had my hair curled around my shoulders.
"You look great too!" I replied.
Gunner held out the roses. "These are for you."
"Awwww! Thank you! Come on in." I went to the living room and told him that he could stay there while I put the flowers in some water and grabbed my purse.
He nodded but I saw his Adam's apple bobbing nervously. I turned around and saw Luke and my uncles standing in the doorway with their arms crossed and were glaring at Gunner.
"Um, Gunner ya know my daddy and Uncle Blake and Uncle Jason. That is my Uncle Tim," I introduced. "Uncle Tim, this is Gunner. I'm gonna go get some water for the flowers."
I headed towards the kitchen. I could see why Gunner was so nervous. The way Luke and my uncles were standing, they could probably take on over half a football team and win.
Luke's POV:
I glared at the boy in the living room, studying him. As Sam passed me and my buddies, she mouthed 'Be nice!'.
Once she was gone I continued studying the boy. He had a farmer's tan, very good muscles from working on a farm. I was pulled from my thoughts as the boy spoke.
"Uh, it's nice to meet ya sir," he said to Tim.
"Good to meet ya too Gunner. So why don't ya tell us about yourself?" Tim suggested, even though it was more of an order.
"Well I work on my daddy's farm. I got three little sisters, and am very protective of them. I get A's and B's in school. When I'm older I plan on taking over my daddy's farm when he can't work on it no more," Gunner told us.
I loosened up a litle and saw that my buddies liked the kid's answer too.
Then I asked him the most important question. It would decide whether I would ever like this boy or not. "Why do ya wanna date my daughter?"
"Well I-" Gunner started but got cut off by Sam coming down the stairs.
"Daddy stop intaragatin' the poor guy!" she said.
"Ya ready to go?" Gunner asked.
Sam nodded. She kissed me and my buddies' cheeks before heading towards the front door. "By guys! Love ya!"
"Love ya too!" we called back.
Then she was gone. My little girl was out on her first date.
