hiccup could not have timed it any better as his father had just arrived on skullcrusher

Stoick climes off his dragon and walked over to his son "how are you doing son" he asked as he wrapped hiccup in one of his famous bear hugs

"I'm fine dad, so what brings you to dragons edge" he asked nervously

"Well I heard a certain rumour......."

'Uh oh' hiccup thought

"That you are coming home for your chief for a day training while I'm at outcast island arranging our peace treaty renewal with alvin" he said smiling at his son

"Uhhh.......w-what me? Chief for a day! Dad I can barely control these guys here daily never mind an entire island that needs feeding, medicating, supplying and ......"

"Hiccup relax" his father said placing his hands on his sons shoulders "you have an extraordinary team looking after you and if you do mess up then learn from it and become better and stronger for those around you"

Hiccup felt a little more confident that he could do this but he was still nervous

If he messed this up it wouldn't look good when he would actually become chief in a few years time

"So what was it you were going to tell me?" He asked looking at the teens

'Oh crud'

Hiccup knew he couldn't or shouldn't hide it from his father as it was going to be his grandchild but he was terrified of what he would say to him

With a heavy sigh and a deep breath he looked his father in the eye with a brave confident gaze and said "dad............I got Astrid pregnant"

There was silence all around as the riders waited for stoick to say something

stoick then looked at Astrid and said "is this true lass?" Astrid only nodded slightly, she felt so ashamed and disappointed in herself

She saw stoicks face and it was serious, she knew it wasn't good

Astrid Only felt fear build up inside her heart and she placed a had on her stomach and rested her head on hiccups shoulder while he wrapped his arms around her

The other riders then all stood around them like the family they all are "I'm taking full responsibility dad, just know that if you try to take this from me you'll have to go through me first" hiccup said holding Astrid close

Stoick looked at the teens and stroked his beard "are you going to look after her son?" he asked

"I'd do anything to ensure the safety of my riders, they're family" he said keeping a firm grip on Astrid

"Then you all must stay here and guard Astrid while hiccup looks after Berk in my absence" he said placing his hands on his hips

"I'm not going to let this go unnoticed but I will say is that I'm proud that you're accepting responsibility son, most men would've run from it by now but this proves you're born to do this"

"Thanks dad" hiccup said smiling at his father, he released Astrid and smiled at her as he kissed her forehead

"Ruff and tuff I want you two on island patrol, if you see anything suspicious come back and let the others know got it?" He said

Ruff and tuff saluted hiccup and smiled "you can count on us" they said in unison

"Fishlegs I want you to care for Astrid while I'm gone, if she needs anything within reason you get it" he said looking at his dragon nerd friend

"I'll do my best" he said leaving to go study the book of dragons..........again

"Heather and Dagur I want you two in charge of everything and to lead the guys if the island comes under attack"

"You can count on us brother" Dagur said crossing his arms over his chest

"We won't let you down" Heather said with a want encouraging smile

"And Snotlout I can't believe I'm saying this but I need you to guard Astrid, no flying without her somewhere in your sight and if anyone who isn't our friend tries to take her............"

"I'll send them to Valhalla" he said with  a grin on his face"

Stoick knew one day hiccup would be a great chief , that right there proves it

Hiccup looked at Astrid and took her hands in his "I'll be back before you know it" he said kissing her passionately

"Save it for the honeymoon Hiccup" his father teased "come now, I need to leave for outcast island tomorrow morning so we best get a move on" he said as he turned to skull crusher and mounted his dragon

"I'll leave toothless too just encase" he said as he turned to leave with his father

"I'll see you soon Astrid I promise"

As skullcrusher took off with Stoick and hiccup on his back Astrid felt a single tear fall down her cheek

"Are you okay Astrid?" Heather said, Astrid wiped her tears away and smiled "yeah, just relived that's all" she said

Heather giggled and put and arm around her friends waist "come on let's go back to your hut and we can discuss what your baby's room will look like"

Astrid and Heather laughed as they walked to her hut talking about all the things that she and hiccup will probably get upto now they're having a child
