It's safe to say I followed her.
I think that made me a stalker.
I really couldn't help myself, though. I'd overheard their conversation about a study date at Jared's and I just couldn't stop myself. I tried not to think of what that said about me because I was fine with it.
Stalker. Stalker. I was a stalker.
I sat in my car, trying to find a way to spy on them without being noticed. I not only needed to know she was safe, I needed to know Jared was trustworthy. Because if anyone was going to be with her, he had to make her laugh and he had to protect her better than I would.
And maybe Jared was that man. But maybe he wasn't.
He didn't live too far from campus. In fact, he didn't live too far from me. The small apartment I rented was only three blocks from Jared's.
As darkness shielded me, I made my way to a lighted window. Looking past the small openings of a blind, I saw her. She was reading. A small book sat on her lap and her dark hair fell from her temple, almost hiding her ethereal face. Her lips moved slowly and I could almost hear the passion in her voice.
Jared sat on the floor staring at her and a pang of jealousy hit me hard.
I walked back to my car with a heavy feeling in my heart. She was safe. He was trustworthy. As much as I tried to be happy for her, I wasn't.
I was jealous.
