Chapter 3
We Finally Get Explanations from Our English Teacher
We ran outside to the parking lot, and a white van pulled to a stop in front of us. The doors opened, and the window rolled down to reveal Professor Freid. The doors slid opened, and we looked at Professor Freid warily. A teacher in a white van can raise some warning flags.
"Get in!" he said, and I climbed inside, not taking any chances. With my arm, I needed a ride to the hospital.
Brendon and Jake shut the doors as they climbed in after me, and my injured arm slammed into something hard. I cried out in pain and clutched the wound. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to focus on anything but the pain.
"Ariana, are you okay?" Jake asked, and I hesitated.
"No," I admitted and sat up. Professor Freid was speeding down the road and glanced back at us.
"What happened?" Brendon asked, and I took off the paper towel. The gashes looked even worse than before.
"The monster scratched me," I said, and Jake looked like he was about to faint.
"Oh my god," he kept saying over and over again. The car swerved, and pain shot through my arm again.
"Hold on kids, we're almost there," Professor Freid said.
"This doesn't look good. I don't think it should be green," Jake said, and Professor Freid looked back at it.
"Poison, no doubt," he declared, and Brendon glared at Jake.
"This is all your fault!" Brendon yelled.
"Me? How is it my fault?" Jake yelled back.
"If you hadn't gone flirting with Gabriella, Ari wouldn't have gotten into the fight and would have been in the class with us instead of in the hall!" Brendon yelled.
"I can't help that Gabriella likes me!" Jake yelled.
"You can still control how you act around her!"
"You're just jealous because girls actually like me and want to date me!"
"That's so not true! I don't care if girls like me or not!"
"Is too!"
"Is not!"
"Oh, for all the love that is holy, will you two stop fighting like morons and help me with my arm?" I yelled, and they stopped arguing.
"You help her. You have the quick fingers," Jake said after a moment, and Brendon shook his head.
"No, you're better at fixing things," Brendon said, and I threw a roll of medical tape at their heads. They are so stupid.
"You three can stop, and we won't need the medical tape. We're at the hospital," Professor Freid said and stopped the car. Jake and Brendon helped me out of the car, and I leaned on Jake for support.
"You're okay," Jake said, and I swallowed thickly.
"Tell that to my arm. I can barely feel it, and I'm starting to see double," I said, spitting out a lot of saliva that was forming in my mouth, and Jake's eyes widened.
"Professor!" Brendon called, overhearing our conversation, and Professor Freid looked at my eyes. My vision swimmed, and I saw Professor Freid's eyes widen.
"The poison must be from a black mamba snake," he said.
"How do you know?" Brendon asked.
"Her eyes are dilated, she's starting to go paralyzed, she has double-vision, and she's starting to foam at the mouth. Those are signs of venom from a black mamba. Jake, carry her in to the hospital before she loses consciousness, and hurry! Brendon, you help me get money from the ATM machine. You're good at stealing things," Professor Freid said.
