Chapter 6

We Get Reunited With Our Fathers, Who Just Happen To Be Gods

Jake and Brendon's eyes widened, and they stared at my father in shock.

"Hey kid, how are you doing?" my dad asked, and I was still in shock. I was meeting my dad for the first time in ten years. Anyone would've been in shock.

"I'm fine. A little worn out from dancing all night," I finally said, and my dad smiled.

"I am as well," he said.

"Wait, you were here all night and you didn't come up to me until now?" I asked, a little ticked

My dad gave me an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, but I had no choice. Zeus would find out I'm here, and he'd come and demanded a fight. I couldn't have that with so many mortals around. I have been watching you, though. From a distance."

I remembered seeing him in the crowd; always close by me and leading the applause after I finished singing a song. I nodded. "Yeah, I know."

My dad smiled. "Great. Now that we've got that covered, come give your dad a hug," he said and pulled me into a hug.

I tensed up slightly, all my instincts flashing back to Marcus. But my dad was different. He smelled of the salty smell of the ocean and some type of French cologne that I guessed he used to hide his ocean scent. The scent was strangely comforting, and the smell was familiar.

He hugged me tightly, and I felt relaxed and safe for the first time in ten years. It's the type of safeness you feel only when you're in your mom or dad's arms.

He finally let me go, and my dad finally noticed Jake and Brendon. "And who are you?" he asked.

Jake and Brendon both jumped.

"Oh, h-h-hi," Brendon stammered, and I rolled my eyes.

"Dad, this is my best friend Brendon Davis, son of Hermes and Nemesis," I said.

My dad nodded. "Yes, Hermes has told me about you. His kid with Nemesis. Good match, though their kids will be little shits."

That comment snapped Brendon out of his nervous trance and back into his normal self. "Excuse me sir, but I think I'll be just as good as your daughter."

My dad smiled. "Maybe so. I like a man who stands up for himself. I think you'll be a good accomplice for Ariana. But being her father, I think no one will be as good as her. You're gonna have a tough job trying to compete with her for attention. That is, if you want affections."

Brendon smiled. "I don't want her affections, but thank you for the advice, sir."

"Please boys, call me William. Poseidon when we aren't around mortals," my dad said.

"That they'll do," I said. "And you know I hate attention."

"I know, but it's a little too late for that. You already have my dear brother and your uncle Zeus' undivided attention," my dad said and turned to Jake. "And who is this fellow?"

"Jake Spencer. Ariana's other best friend and son of Hephaestus and Hestia," Jake said, holding out his hand. I admired the confidence Jake had, and my dad shook his hand.

"So you're her boyfriend, eh?" my dad said, and I choked on the water I was drinking.

"No sir, we are just friends," Jake said.

"You got that right," I choked out, and my dad thumped me on the back.

"Whatever you say. I'll ask Aphrodite about this. She got Hephaestus and Hestia together, you know. She wasn't happy about him liking her, but it still gave her the chance to be with Ares officially," my dad said, and then a thought struck me.
