Chapter 12
Preparing For Some Stupid Ball I'm Forcing Jake and Brendon To Go To
We decided to rest at an inn for the night, and we all fell straight to sleep. We woke up around ten o'clock, and I rubbed my arm. It was sore where Dr. Holt had injected the needle into me.
Jake looked at me. "Are you okay?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. That little git just stabbed the needle right into a muscle."
Brendon smiled slightly. "Using british terms, huh?"
"I can't say what I want to say in American terms because if I do, my dad will kill me. And my mom taught me not to cuss in American terms. British terms are free for use," I said.
Jake smiled and got me a wet rag. "Here." He put the rag on the injured part of my arm. I winced slightly, but my arm glowed blue and the pain faded.
"Thanks," I said.
"You're welcome," Jake said.
"Okay, so what are we gonna do?" Brendon asked.
"Well, I have to save the world before midnight," I said, "otherwise Zeus is gonna kill me."
"What!" Jake shrieked.
"Calm down, it's not like I haven't been tried to be killed before," I said. "I had a dream a couple weeks ago where my dad and Zeus were arguing. Zeus was-and still is-convinced that I'm dangerous and too powerful to be alive. My dad told him I'm not like the last Elemental Narcissus, and Zeus gave me a three-week deadline to prove that I'm a hero and I will save the world, not destroy it. If I don't prove that I'm a hero, then Zeus will send monsters after me and kill me himself."
"Then we'll be ready for a fight," Jake said.
"We can't fight a god, Jake, much less a dozen monsters. Besides, he's the king of the gods. If anything, he's gonna be the hardest to kill," I said.
"What happens if you do prove you're a hero before midnight?" Brendon asked.
"Then my dad will prove to Zeus I'm good and Zeus will leave me alone."
"Then let's make something that makes you look like a hero," Jake said.
"It's not that easy, Jake. The gods are watching us-especially Zeus-and they'll know we made it up and that I'm a fake. We need to stop Dr. Holt. It's the only way to save both the world and me."
"Then let's go find him," Brendon said.
"Why? We already know where he's gonna be with the vile tonight. It gives us time to prepare and to get ready for a fight," I said.
"Okay and how are we going to do this?" Jake asked.
"That's where you fit into my plan," I said. "Since you're the son of Hephaestus, you have his blacksmith talent. You can help prepare gadgets for us."
"What about me?" Brendon asked.
"You're gonna help plan. Once we get inside Buckingham Palace, we're gonna need traps to slow down Holt's plan. Trip wires, smoke bombs, stuff like that," I said.
"Okay, how are we going to get the stuff to make these? We can't just walk into a store and buy it. It'll be way too expensive," Jake said.
"Easy. I'm gonna have to summon the gold, copper, and silver from the earth, and we're going to have to go shopping for the leather, metal, and other stuff," I said.
"Can't you get your dad to help us?" Brendon asked.
"I can't. He's busy trying to get Zeus to stop trying to kill me. Nobody else can come because they're busy trying to find ways to help my dad. I may be able to get some money, though," I said.
